When performing input processing, a destination to which the supplementary information is to be transmitted is selected from the multiple destinations. Subsequently, the supplementary information for the destination is input, and the supplementary information is correlated with the destination. Additionally, the image data and the supplementary information are combined. Then, composite data for the destination is transmitted to the destination.

Abstract: Reduction in the blockiness of a simulated film grain block can be achieved either by the use of adaptive downscaling or adaptive deblocking filtering to adjust the intensity of the pixels at the block edge in accordance with at least one film grain block parameter, such as film grain size, intensity and texture. Performing such adaptive downscaling or adaptive deblocking filtering achieves improved performance at lower computational cost by avoiding modification of film grain block pixels in lesser affected areas.

Abstract: Upon transmission of compressed code data for respective printing color components from an information processing apparatus such as a host computer to a printing apparatus, a reception buffer memory of the printing apparatus can be effectively utilized. For this purpose, a printer driver repetitively receives drawing data regarding printing from higher processing and performs drawing. When an end of page command has been received, the drawn image data is converted to printing color component data, and a ratio of data amounts for the respective printing color components is notified to the printing apparatus based on predicted code amounts upon compression of the image data for the respective printing color components, such that the printing apparatus determines ring buffer sizes of the reception buffer memory allocated for respective color components. Then, the code data for the respective printing color components is outputted.

  • Patent number: 7468803
Abstract: Provided are an image processing apparatus and image processing method capable of processing image data as packet data, and compressing the image data in real time to a data amount within the storage capacity of a memory. Image data in the form of packet data is divided into a plurality of blocks by a block forming circuit (102), and compressed at a first compression ratio by a DCT circuit (104), quantizing circuit (105), and Huffman encoding circuit (106) for each block. A counter (108) measures the data amount of the compressed image data. If the measured data amount is equal to or larger than a predetermined value, the image data stored in a memory (112) is recompressed at a second compression ratio as a higher compression ratio by a Huffman decoding circuit (113), bit shifting circuit (114), and Huffman encoding circuit (115).

Abstract: Systems and methods are described that facilitate mitigating searchable electronic document size increases associated with embedded font definition files by embedding only font size information. When a document is scanned or converted into a PDF or XPS document image, glyphless font size information describing character dimensions for fonts used in the document is embedded into the document image. The glyphless font size information is on the order of a few kilobytes in size, and is later read by a searcher to facilitate highlighting search terms identified in the document image in response to a user query. A highlight block is generated to have a width substantially equal to the combined widths of the characters in the queried term, which are described in the glyphless font information. The highlight block is then overlaid on the image of the queried term, and presented to the user.

  • Patent number: 7397963
Abstract: A method and apparatus for storing bitplanes of coefficients in a reduced size memory is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for encoding coefficients comprises applying one or more wavelet transforms to generate multiple coefficients and storing N bitplanes of each of the multiple coefficients in a first memory having multiple rows. Each of the multiple coefficients has a bit length greater than N bits, and each storage location in each of the rows stores a bit of either a more significant bitplane of the coefficients or a less significant bitplane of the coefficients. The storing of N bitplanes includes storing an indication for each row of the rows to indicate a location in each row at which bits of more significant bitplanes have started to be stored and after which bits of the multiple coefficients of the less significant bitplanes are no longer stored.

  • Patent number: 7283265
Abstract: A plurality of patterns such as solid patterns, edge patterns, half-tone patterns, and verbatim data are losslessly represented in a compressed raster data stream. A pattern selection module selects among the various patterns to provide the best combination of lossless representations according to particular criteria such as storage compactness. A packet formatting module packs multiple pattern identifiers and lossless representations into a packet which may be transmitted compactly. Upon receipt, a packet deformatting module unpacks the pattern identifiers and lossless representations from the packet. After deformatting, a pattern decoding module uses the pattern identifier to activate appropriate pattern generation modules. Each pattern generation module regenerates data according to an indicated pattern to recreate the original raster data.

  • Patent number: 7139099
Abstract: Disclosed are an image processing device and an image processing method capable of generating a high-resolution color image of a fine gray scale from image data of a small information amount by using a small memory capacity. A character graphics image of high resolution generated by a character rasterizing block is converted by a conversion block to image data in which color information of one color is assigned per group of pixels, and tag information indicating whether the color information is used or not is added with respect to the multiple pixels to which the color information is assigned. By the tag information, while maintaining the high resolution, a fine gray scale can be assured. An image decoding block which has received such image data decodes the image data into a color image of output resolution by assigning the color information to the position indicated by the tag information.

  • Patent number: 7088463
Abstract: A method of sending binary data over an image data channel. The binary data is encoded into an encoded linear matrix image, and the encoded linear matrix image is transmitted over the image data channel. The received linear matrix image is decoded to recover the binary data. The encoding uses encoding parameters which are adapted for encoding the binary data into an encoded matrix image. The encoding parameters are defined in such a manner that a transformed matrix image produced by transmitting the encoded linear matrix image over the image-transforming channel is reconstructable into the encoded linear matrix image. The binary data is encoded into the encoded linear matrix image according to the encoding parameters. In order to recover the binary data from the received matrix image, the decoding analyzes a header section of the received linear matrix image to determine image-distortion characteristics of the image data channel.
