Memory Interface Patents (Class 358/444)
  • Patent number: 8331738
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for reducing a size of a memory buffer used by an electronic registration correction system performing an electronic registration correction on a digital image. The present method uses column address segmentation to identify blocks of scanlines within a spatially mapped array of image pixels comprising a digital image. Advantageously, the present system and method reduces scanline buffer memory by a factor of 2n-1, where n is the number of column address segments. Buffering can be performed at almost any upstream location in the image path. The present method is well suited for high resolution imaging equipment where memory is constrained by design, cost, or space limitations.

Abstract: A method is provided for processing an image to optimize print time of the image by a print apparatus based on the size of the image to be printed and the print pass thresholds of the print apparatus. A dimension of the image corresponding to the dimension along the sub-scanning axis of the image as it will be printed by the print apparatus is obtained, along with the corresponding number of print passes required to print the image. An analysis is performed to determine whether the size of the image could be reduced to require one less print pass by the print apparatus in printing the reduced image based on the proximity of the determined dimension to the range of dimensions that will result in one less print pass by the print apparatus.

Abstract: Techniques and systems for controlling resources used by a device's web services applications are disclosed. In one technique, web services applications release their allocated resources and enter a “sleep mode” after being inactive for a specified period of time. In one technique, a device maintains a shared pool of memory resources. The pool contains data structures that web services applications are likely to re-use. Before allocating a new instance of a needed data structure from free memory, a web services application first determines whether the shared pool already contains a currently unused but allocated instance of a data structure of the needed type, and, if the shared pool does, then the web service application uses that instance, overwriting existing data in the instance as needed. Web services applications return such data structures to the shared pool when those web services applications are finished using those data structures.

Abstract: Motion is introduced into a scanning operation, in addition to the motion that is inherent in any scanning operation. For example, in a flatbed scanner a linear array of scanning devices is positioned across a document in a first or “x” direction and this array is moved across the document in a perpendicular or “y” direction. With embodiments of the present technology a vibratory motion is introduced into the scanning process—not aligned with the basic “y” direction of scan. Such vibratory motion can be controlled in accordance with pre-stored data, or a random process can be employed. In some arrangements, the vibration reduces Moiré patterns. In other arrangements, the vibration causes a hidden pattern to be revealed from the scanned object. A great many other features and arrangements are also detailed.

The dynamic ADS generator effectively parallelizes the generation of the ADS, such that an ADS may be built using a plurality of parallel threads of execution. By doing so, both the frontend and backend rendering processes are amendable to parallelization, and enabling if so desired real time rendering using physical rendering techniques such as ray tracing and photon mapping. Furthermore, streaming geometry frontends such as OpenGL and DirectX compatible frontends can readily be adapted for use with physical rendering backends, thereby enabling developers to continue to develop with raster-based API's, yet still obtain the benefits of physical rendering techniques.

  • Patent number: 8072652
Abstract: An image reading apparatus including a first image reader for reading the front side of document, and a second image reader configured to read the reverse side of document. The apparatus also includes a storage device to store first image data read by the first image reader and second image data read by the second image reader, and a writing controller for writing the first image data and the second image data in parallel to the storage device. A reading controller then reads the first image data and the second image data sequentially from the storage device, and an image processor processes the first and second image data. An image converter then converts the format of the first image data and/or the second image data to be the same.

Abstract: An image forming device is provided with an external storage, a printing unit, a storage controlling unit configured to store the image data in the external storage or an internal storage. The storage controlling device stores the image data developed from the print data retrieved from the print data stored in the external in the external storage, while stores the image data developed from the print data transmitted from the external device in the internal storage. At least file names of image data stored in the external storage on the displaying unit are displayed for selection when the external storage is connected to the image forming device, and file names of image data stored in the internal storage are displayed when the external storage is not connected to the image forming device. A reprinting unit performs a reprinting operation based on the selected image data.

Abstract: In an image reading apparatus, a retreat control device moves a conveyance target through a conveyance mechanism, when a stop operation is performed by a stop control device, in an opposite direction to an image reading direction to a position further from a restart reference position set by a position setting unit. A reading control device again moves the conveyance target, which has been moved by the retreat control device, at a constant speed in the image reading direction under a predetermined condition; inputs a line start signal to a reading unit when an offset time set by a time setting unit has elapsed from a time point when the conveyance target reaches the restart reference position; and periodically inputs a line start signal to thereby cause the reading unit to perform a reading operation from a point; where the reading unit is located when the offset time has elapsed.

  • Patent number: 8040555
Abstract: Methods, algorithms, software, apparatuses and systems for processing image data for imaging devices having irregular scan paths (e.g., scan paths that deviate from a conventional horizontal and/or straight line). The irregular scan paths generally correspond to actual locations of a line of output from an image output device (e.g., a printer). The method generally includes steps of selecting one or more of the input pixels, correlating a location of the selected pixel with a location on an irregular scan path, and producing an adjusted pixel based on a value of the selected pixel, the location on the irregular scan path, and/or values of one or more pixels near the selected pixel. The present invention advantageously allows for processing an input image for an output device with an irregular scan path using only enough working memory for a relatively small number of pixel rows even if the irregular scan path traverses a relatively large number of rows in the output image.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus performs filtering on block image data that is a predetermined region of original image data using a filter having a main scanning width of N and a sub-scanning width of M. Using a register that can shift image data in a plurality of directions, the image processing apparatus processes pixel data columns in a sub-scanning direction included in the block image data in the following manner. The pixel data columns are processed in the sub-scanning direction and a direction opposite to the sub-scanning direction alternately for each of the pixel data columns, and the pixel data columns are also processed in the order in which the columns are aligned in a main scanning direction. This makes shorter the filtering processing time of the image processing apparatus that performs processing on a block-by-block basis.
