Abstract: When a plurality of images are combined together, a positioning error can occur. To correct positioning error, the images may be displayed on a display, and a user may specify a correction value using an operation device. However, in a case where the operation device does not have high performance or the display does not have a screen large enough to provide sufficiently high viewability, the correction of the positioning error is difficult. In the present invention, in view of the above, a sheet is printed and a user describes on the sheet a correction value in terms of relative position of a plurality of images stored in a memory. The sheet is read by a reading apparatus, and an image obtained is analyzed to determine the specified correction value. The relative position of the plurality of images stored in the memory is corrected based on the determined correction value.

Abstract: Image alignment operations particular suited for High Dynamic Range (HDR) image generation are described. Image pyramids may be generated using reference and source images. Difference bitmaps, based on a number of pixel shift combinations in the x and y directions, can be divided into tiles and analyzed and, for each pyramid level, an optimal shift direction determined. The tiles can then be pruned using a threshold such that only those tiles contributing up to the threshold are projected to a subsequent pyramid level. The alignment vector for each level can be aggregated to determine a final alignment vector which can be used to shift the source image. This process may be repeated for another source image, and the two source images and reference image, once aligned, may be merged to generate an HDR image.

  • Patent number: 8373906
Abstract: This invention has as its object to generate image data having a desired resolution by a small footprint upon execution of resolution conversion processing in an image processing apparatus having an area image sensor. This invention is an image processing method for processing a plurality of image data which have phase shifts in the main scanning direction and sub scanning direction, including a step of inputting a target resolution, a step of executing super-resolution processing for respective positions using image data, corresponding to each position of the document in the sub scanning direction, of the plurality of image data, and a step of further executing variable-magnification processing of the image data which has undergone the super-resolution processing at that position when the resolution of the image data executed super-resolution processing is lower than the target resolution.

Abstract: A method of scanning an image of a document with a portable electronic device includes interactively indicating in substantially real time on a user interface of the portable electronic device, an instruction for capturing at least one portion of an image to enhance quality. The indication is in response to identifying degradation associated with the portion(s) of the image. The method also includes capturing the portion(s) of the image with the portable electronic device according to the instruction. The method further includes stitching the captured portion(s) of the image in place of a degraded portion of a reference image corresponding to the document, to create a corrected stitched image of the document.

  • Patent number: 8339467
Abstract: A computer peripheral that operates either as a computer mouse or as a scanner. The peripheral includes navigation sensors that generate information on motion of the device and an image array that captures successive image frames of an object being scanned. In a mouse mode, the peripheral periodically transfers readings from the navigation sensors to a computing device so that the computing device can track a position of the device. In a scanner mode, in addition to obtaining navigation information from the navigation sensors, the peripheral also captures image frames as it is moved across the object. Operation of the navigation sensors and image array may be synchronized such that an association between the image data and the navigation information may be generated and maintained as image frames are transferred to the computing device, even if some of the frames are dropped in transmission between the scanner-mouse and a computer.

  • Patent number: 8335014
Abstract: A test pattern containing plurality of patches recorded using small dot patterns and large dot patterns is printed. The dot sizes arranged in the patches are different between patches. Then the test patterns are read. The detection rate and average density of additional information embedded in each large dot pattern are obtained. A large dot pattern whose detection rate and average density fall within a reference range and are closest to ideal values is determined. The average density of each small dot pattern is obtained. A small dot pattern whose average density falls within a reference range and is closest to the average density of the determined large dot pattern is determined. A copy-forgery-inhibited pattern image is generated using these dot patterns and combined with a print target image.

Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing delays in printing print jobs use a RIP or a digital front end generally, to maintain an inventory of pre-ripped ready to print work that can be sent to the print engine to prevent an engine shutdown due to the RIPs inability to keep up with the engine. The systems and methods for reducing delays in printing print jobs can track performance in real time and automatically switch to printing jobs from post-RIP content archive if it is determined that the print engine is at risk of outpacing the RIP or DFE such that printing will be interrupted at the print engine.
