Abstract: According to one embodiment, a document detecting apparatus includes a light-emitting element, a photoelectric conversion element, a light-emission controller and a detection processor. The light-emitting element projects light onto a detection position of a document. The photoelectric conversion element outputs an electric signal obtained by converting the light from the detection position of the document. The light-emission controller changes the light quantity of the light emitted by the light-emitting element. The detection processor detects the presence or absence of the document at the detection position of the document based on the presence or absence of a change of an output value corresponding to the change of the light quantity caused by the light-emission controller in an output value from the photoelectric conversion element.

Abstract: An image inspecting apparatus includes a first light illuminating unit that irradiates a measured object on which an image is formed with illuminating light from a diagonal direction; an imaging unit that receives specular light of the illuminating light with which the measured object is irradiated by the first light illuminating unit; and an image inspecting unit that inspects the image. The image inspecting unit generates gloss reference data from density distribution data included in print data used for forming the image by using a converting unit. The image inspecting unit inspects a gloss distribution of the image by using the gloss reference data and a gloss distribution of the image that is generated based on an amount of the specular light received by the imaging unit.
