If a foreign substance on the document plate is detected after the conveying of the document by the conveying unit is started, correcting by a correcting unit is performed. In a case where the foreign substance on the document plate disappears during the conveying of the document by the conveying unit and the foreign substance is no longer detected, the correcting by the correcting unit is not performed, but image data is produced according to the image of the document read by the reading unit.
