Patent number: 10458751Abstract: Device and related methods for improving the accuracy and precision of firearms fitted with optical sights. The device comprises a small alignment pattern for indexing against a small, central region of a target picture aimpoint or reticle. The alignment pattern is applied to an auxiliary lens fixed in position externally behind an ocular lens. The auxiliary lens is supported by a frame secured to the optical sight or the auxiliary lens is made to adhere to the outside surface of the ocular lens. Some embodiments refract or condition light to improve target pictures. Alternatively, an alignment pattern, without an auxiliary lens, is applied directly to or made integral with an ocular lens during the manufacture of an optical sight. In general, referencing the alignment pattern with the reticle, by adjusting eye placement until a desired alignment is observed, provides consistent shooter positioning and reduced parallax.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2017Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Inventor: William Rocque

Patent number: 8064132Abstract: A system and method are provided for removing a reticle from visualization in a displayed view in a binocular wherein the reticle is visible during direct scene view. The system includes a filter positioned between a display element and an eyepiece wherein a visual characteristic of the filter matches a corresponding characteristic of the reticle. These matching characteristics thereby render the reticle substantially “invisible” to the user. Exemplary filters can include a monochromatic filter and a polarizer.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2009Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Vectronix, Inc.Inventor: Richard Alan LeBlanc

Patent number: 7113331Abstract: A binocular telescope with a photographing function comprises a pair of telescopic optical systems, a photographing optical system, and a pair of reticle elements, on which reticles are formed. The reticle elements are provided in the telescopic optical systems for focusing the telescopic optical systems. The distance between the optical axes of the telescopic optical systems can be adjusted, so that the reticle images are fused. The shapes of the fused reticle images are geometrically non-coordinate with each other.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2003Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Assignee: PENTAX CorporationInventors: Ken Hirunuma, Shuji Yoneyama

Patent number: 6927907Abstract: A reference plate is situated on an optical axis of an eyepiece. The reference plate includes a first glass plate and a second glass plate. One surface of the first glass plate and one surface of the second glass plate are bonded. Cross hairs are formed on the bonded surface of the first glass plate by using a chromium plating and so on. A radius of curvature of the bonded surface accords with the field curvature of the sagittal image surface of the eyepiece.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2003Date of Patent: August 9, 2005Assignee: PENTAX CorporationInventor: Shuji Yoneyama

Patent number: 6721095Abstract: A combined focus and reticle illumination system for a riflescope which uses a single, dual functioning turn knob mounted on the scope turret for focusing and activating and deactivating the illuminated reticle. During use, the turn knob is rotated to adjust the relative position of a sliding focusing cell assembly located inside the scope body in front of the erector tube. The reticle, attached to the proximal end of the erector tube, includes a side mounted LED. The turn knob has a push-pull movement and a battery located therein that disconnects and connects, respectively, the electric circuit. The sliding focusing cell includes a rigid outer housing that is resistant to bending and a rear sliding lens cell that is biased in a rearward direction to be self-centering during recoil. Wires extend from the turn knob to the LED along the scope sidewalls and are designed to preclude twisting.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2002Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Inventor: Jeff Huber

Patent number: 6122099Abstract: A method of achieving a focusing adjustment of an optical assembly, and of releasably locking this focusing adjustment, is described. A night vision weapon sight (10) which implements this method includes an objective lens assembly (14), an eyepiece lens (18), and an image intensifier tube (20) receiving light via the objective lens in order to provide an image via the eyepiece lens. The objective lens assembly includes a base portion (32) into which a lens housing (34) is threadably received. The threaded engagement of the base portion and lens housing is locked by a collet-like array of radially flexible fingers (42) each having a conical outer surface. A locking collar (44) having a conically tapering inner surface threadably engages the lens housing (34) and engages the collet fingers (42). Locking of the locking collar (44) is ensured by threaded engagement of a locking ring (54) with the locking collar (44) such that the prevailing torque tightens both of a pair of threaded engagements of opposite hand.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1999Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: Litton Systems, Inc.Inventors: Clifford James Connors, Gary A.
