Abstract: A projection type image display device includes an oblique projection optical system that magnifies and projects modulated image light, and includes lens elements and a reflection mirror having a convex surface. A center of an outer shape of one or more of the lens elements at a nearest position to the reflection mirror is positioned above an optical axis. The reflection mirror has a reflection surface shape orthogonal to a projection plane inclusive of the optical axis of the reflection mirror. The reflection surface shape and lens element are formed as specified. For example, the reflection surface shape is formed so that an average radius of curvature in an area through which a light flux focused at a center of the projection plane passes is smaller than that of curvature in an area through which a light flux focused at an upper end portion of the projection plane passes.

The windows protect the active elements of the micro-device from contaminants, while allowing light to pass into and out of the hermetically sealed micro-device package. Windows may be batch produced, reducing the cost of production, by fusing multiple metal frames to a single sheet of glass. In order to allow windows to be welded atop packages, disclosed embodiments keep a lip of metal without any glass after the metal frames are fused to the sheet of glass. Several techniques may accomplish this goal, including grinding grooves in the glass to provide a gap that prevents fusion of the glass to the metal frames along the outside edges in order to form a lip. The disclosed batch processing techniques may allow for more efficient window production, taking advantage of the economy of scale.

Abstract: An optical modulator used for optically modulating electromagnetic energy. The optical modulator comprises a substrate and three substantially planar reflectors arranged substantially mutually orthogonal to each other. The planar reflectors comprise a base reflector disposed substantially in the plane of the substrate and first and second side reflectors operably coupled to the base reflector. The optical modulator further comprises a pair of electrically conductive traces operably connected to the base reflector, an electrically conductive pad operably connected to each of the conductive traces, at least one material layer deposited on the base reflector by which its reflection properties may be altered or modulated with an applied voltage, and a biasing source operably coupled to said conductive pads for providing a modulated voltage to the base reflector.

  • Patent number: 7182475
Abstract: A weather and corrosion-resistant reflector with high overall reflection in the visible and infrared wavelength ranges. The reflector contains a reflector body with a reflection surface of an aluminum or aluminum alloy or a reflector body with a reflection coating of an aluminum or aluminum alloy. The reflector also contains an outer, final transparent protective layer of a sol-gel coating which is thicker than 1 ?m. The transparent sol-gel coating is a polymer of cross-linked inorganic siloxanes with alcohol groups that are bonded to the silicon with a carbon bond. The sol-gel coating is produced in a sol-gel process and, after having been applied to the reflector body, is dried and hardened using heat. The protective layer has excellent resistance to weather, corrosion and abrasion.

  • Patent number: 6820985
Abstract: To provide a display panel, such as a PDP, that can reduce noise caused by a collision sound which occurs when a front panel member and a back panel member vibrate while the display panel is being driven. Projections (21) are provided on a surface of a first panel member facing a second panel member. The first panel member and the second panel member are connected to each other by a connecting material in areas (23) where the projections intersect barrier ribs (18). In this way, noise (noise level) caused by a collision sound which occurs when the front panel member and the back panel member vibrate while the display panel is being driven can be reduced.

Abstract: A no base coat vehicle headlamp reflector can be improved with a plasma deposited layer of a siloxane material. The siloxane layer acts as an barrier layer formed directly on the vehicle reflector. The vehicle headlamp reflector with no base coat, but an barrier layer yields a resin lamp interior protected from upsets in the reflective layer and from outgasing condensate. The lamp reflector coated with plasma polymer of methanol yields a plastic lamp reflector resistant to condensation forming thereon, and resistant to attach by water vapor.
