Rotatable Heads-up Device Or Combiner Patents (Class 359/632)
  • Patent number: 10379364
Abstract: A head-mounted display includes a mounting fixture mounted on a user's head, an image display device including an image light unit that generates image light, a half mirror, and a casing, a connection fixture that mounts the image display device with respect to the mounting fixture, a first ball joint that connects the mounting fixture and the connection fixture, and a second ball joint that connects the image display device and the connection fixture. The connection fixture holds the image display device in front of a user's eyes. The second ball joint extends in right and left directions, and rotatably supports the image display device with respect to the connection fixture in a state in which a rotational axis, disposed on a rear side of the image display device, is set as a supporting point. The second ball joint changes a direction of image light that is emitted.

Abstract: The problem addressed by the present invention is to provide a head-up display device suitable for a curved windshield in a head-up display device provided with a combiner and a cover wherein the cover moves in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. A front part of a guide rail extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle is curved downward. A cover, which moves along this guide rail, is moved by a drive link and a driven link. Because the curved guide rail is used, the dimension of a head-up display device in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle can be reduced, a large inclined surface can be provided on the upper front part of a housing, and the head-up display device can be placed close to a curved windshield.

Abstract: A system and method for video display aboard an aircraft, automobile, or other vehicle includes a housing and an assembly including a display screen partially or completely contained within the housing. When the display screen is impacted by an object or a passenger of the vehicle, brackets and support members absorb and dissipate impact energy such that the display screen is prevented from breakage or dislodgement due to absorbed energy. Instead, the display screen may absorb impact energy insufficient to break it but sufficient to direct or shift the display screen from its original position to a new position. The video display system may also include spring-loaded or actuated brackets to return the display screen to its original position after an impact, and sensors to alert a user to inspect, repair or replace the brackets, display screen, or other system components.

Abstract: An input-coupler of an optical waveguide couples light corresponding to the image and having a corresponding FOV into the optical waveguide, and the input-coupler splits the FOV of the image coupled into the optical waveguide into first and second portions by diffracting a portion of the light corresponding to the image in a first direction toward a first intermediate-component, and diffracting a portion of the light corresponding to the image in a second direction toward a second intermediate-component. An output-coupler of the waveguide combines the light corresponding to the first and second portions of the FOV, and couples the light corresponding to the combined first and second portions of the FOV out of the optical waveguide so that the light corresponding to the image and the combined first and second portions of the FOV is output from the optical waveguide. Abstract: A method for producing a single-layer diffractive combiner for a head-up display having a projection unit with n light sources of ?i wavelength(s), where i=1 to n sending light towards the combiner at an angle ?p. The method includes forming interference fringes for each ?i wavelength on a photosensitive layer with an interference of two light beams from a single laser source of wavelength ?e, where the forming step is repeated n times, and each time the forming step is repeated an angle ?i between the two beams is determined according to ?i=arcsin ((?e/?i)*sin(?p)), one of the interfering beams being divergent and having a spherical wave front and the other being a plane wave, the interference of the beams generating a diffractive network with an adjustable pitch and curved contour fringe lines.

Abstract: A head up display device for a vehicle includes a display; an optical system having a reflecting mirror; a stepping motor; and a control system having a determining device, a micro-step control device, and a forcible control device. The determining device determines whether an adjustment command for micro-step control is given. The micro-step control device performs the micro-step control as long as the determining device determines that the command for the micro-step control is given. The forcible control device forcibly controls a drive signal such that an electrical angle changes to a stabilizing point. When determination made by the determining device switches from determination that the command is given to determination that the command is not given, the forcible control device forcibly controls the drive signal, provided that the electrical angle as of the time of the determination that the command is not given is shifted from the stabilizing point.
