  • Patent number: 7515367
Abstract: A digital micromirror device (“DMD”) is used to alter the shape of light that is projected onto a stage. The DMD selectively reflects some light, thereby shaping the light that is projected onto the stage. The control for the alteration is controlled by an image. That image can be processed, thereby carrying out image processing effects on the shape of the light that is displayed. One preferred application follows the shape of the performer and illuminates the performer using a shape that adaptively follows the performer's image. This results in a shadowless follow spot.

Abstract: An optical system for shaping an incoming beam having a divergence with an angular distribution at least in a first direction comprises at least one angle selective optical element for clipping the angular distribution in the at least first direction. The approach according to the present invention bases on using an angle-selective device operated by the principle of total internal reflection to reduce divergence of the incoming beam, in contrast to a spatially-selective device as for example a field-stop or slit. The method according to the present invention has the advantage that no physical sharp edges have to be exposed at high energy densities. Thus, thermal impact and demands on the optical elements to withstand a high power laser beam are significantly reduced.

First, for each lens of a plurality of the lenses, a susceptibility factor KLT/LH is determined. This factor is a measure of the susceptibility of the respective lens to deteriorations caused by at least one of lifetime effects and lens heating effects. Then a birefringent fluoride crystal is selected as a material for each lens for which the susceptibility factor KLT/LH is above a predetermined threshold. Theses lenses are assigned to a first set of lenses. For these lenses, measures are determined for reducing adverse effects caused by birefringence inherent to the fluoride crystals.

Abstract: Disclosed are photo or electron beam curable polymerizable compositions, and preparation thereof and devices containing such cured material. The composition contains completely or substantially completely hydrogenated hydrocarbon-based material completely free or substantially free of carbon-carbon double and triple bonds containing photo or electron beam curable terminal or pendant groups, low-outgassing photoinitiators, an optional viscosity adjustment component and an optional filler. The composition is visible light, UV or electron beam curable. It cures into a low-modulus, low outgassing polymer material. The composition can be used as an adhesive, sealant or lens potting material. It is ideal for use in lithographic tools and other optical devices involving deep or vacuum ultraviolet radiations, in particular, as lens potting materials for 248 nm, 193 nm and 157 nm lithographic tools, as well as other optical devices involving using high fluence irradiation.

  • Patent number: 7221506
Abstract: Images are projected onto two adjacent screens whereby one screen is movable with respect to the second screen. A projection system disposed generally in front of the two screens is capable of displaying images on each screen independently when the two screen are in an “open” position or on both screens together when the two screens are configured in a “closed” position. In a first “open” configuration, the images viewable on one screen are not viewable to the viewers of images on an adjacent screen and, in a second “closed” configuration, images are displayed on both screens together so as to be viewable by all members of the audience. In addition, a berm is configured between the viewing area of one screen and the viewing area of the other screen to create an audio and visual barrier between the two screens.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a rod with an optical thin film which comprises forming a rod block by arranging a plurality of rods each having a circular cross section in parallel to one another along the axis of each rod and by allowing a resin to enter gaps between rods adjacent to one another to fix the rods to one another. The rod block is cut into a predetermined length. The endfaces of each rod positioned on the cut endface of the rod block are then polished. An optical thin film is formed on the polished endfaces of each rod. The resin has a melting point higher than the temperature used in forming the film. The rods are separated from one another by removing the resin from the rod block.

Abstract: An automated system for selecting optical apparatus compares a set of user specifications with the optical characteristics of a plurality of standard optical components, and automatically chooses a combination of the components forming the closest match to the user's requirements. The method is performed using a programmed computer which may be remotely interfaced with the user via the internet. The user inputs the specification into the computer using a standardized input table. The user may optionally specify that the system be designed using a particular product line or family of standard products. If a system exactly matching the customer's specifications cannot be found, two systems are suggested that bracket the customer's stated requirements.

  • Patent number: 7073952
Abstract: An optical alignment device holds fiber collimators in place with extremely good mechanical and environmental stability. The device includes a ball with a hole traversing the ball, an upper clamping block with a first inner concave spherical surface and a lower clamping block with a second inner concave spherical surface. The hole includes a shape that can accommodate or contact an optical component whose alignment is to be controlled. The ball, together with the enclosed optical component is firmly held between the first and second inner concave surfaces of the clamping blocks, which are tightened against the ball with screws. When firmly clamped within the concave surfaces, the ball is prevented from accidental movement but can still rotate about any axis to align the optical component. Once alignment is achieved, the optical component and the ball are secured in place by epoxy, glue, solder or other suitable adhesive.
