Abstract: The invention relates to an outsole for sports shoes, particularly for shoes used for long-distance running on hard tracks. The outsole consists of a soft elastically flexible material, preferably plastics material, and is thickened rearwardly in wedge formation. In the region of the heel tread surface of the outsole, there is provided a recess which is open towards both side edges of the sole and in which a resilient elongate supporting member is fittingly insertable. Preferably a plurality of supporting members are inserted in corresponding recesses adjacent one another. The supporting members are replaceable and permit the effective sole flexibility in the region of the heel tread surface to be adapted to the individual requirements of the runner and the track.

Abstract: The structure of the tongue for use with an article of footwear having a receptacle associated therewith, which is defined by a pair of overlaying members. The overlaying members have their side portions joined together with the lower member having an extended portion or flap, at the upper end thereof. The flap member has a closure element which coacts with a corresponding closure element at the upper surface of the upper overlaying member. The flap when bent provides for forming of the closure elements to cause engagement of one another and thereby close the compartment formed in the tongue. Alternatively, the overlaying members, having their side portions joined together, can be joined together at their upper portion to close the compartment without employing the flap member by closure means, such as a zipper.Various articles such as coins, keys, etc., can be within the compartment to be securely held therein.

Abstract: In an athletic shoe having a pocket, generally disposed laterally and mounted upon the quarter portion for the shoe, the pocket comprises a liner of material, or a pair of the same, each stitched or otherwise fastened to the side of the shoe, so that the front and back edges of the pocket are confiningly affixed to the shoe, while the bottom edge of the pocket may be stitched to the quarter panel upwardly of the sole, or the same may be secured with the shoe through the effort of the stitching that holds the sole shank to the shoe quarter portion. Proximate the upward edge of the formed pocket, in one embodiment, is stitched to the shoe near the location of its eyestay, and having a zipper provided through the pocket, or at least its front liner, to attain access into the pocket and wherein miscellaneous personal items may be located for safe keeping, particularly during shoe usage, as when jogging.

Abstract: A pivot plate for attachment to the sole of a shoe comprises paired cylindrical discs which are rotatably fastened to one another in vertical adjacency, and which have antifriction pads located on their inwardly facing surfaces so that said discs rotate freely relative to one another even when subjected to an axial load. A double-backed membrane having a protective cover on one of its sides is attached to the outer surface of one of the discs so that the pivot can be attached to an existing shoe quickly and easily merely by removing the cover and pressing it in place.

Abstract: A cross bar is provided with a pair of plug cutting tubes one at each end thereof and being edge sharpened at the lower edge. Plug release cut away portions are formed in the tubes spaced above the lower ends. The cross bar is secured to the underside of the shoes or boots against the heel step with each tube being situated slightly outboard of the sides of the soles. Walking on lawns or the like causes the plug tubes to cut cylindrical plugs from the lawn which are expelled upwardly and outwardly through the plug release cut away portions.

Abstract: A decorative device for converting street shoes to dress or evening shoes, comprising a mounting tab which fits within the shoe at the rear thereof and from which there is provided depending decorative links of a chain which may be provided with jewels or sequins. A flexible connector is provided at the lower end of the decorative links to encircle the heel of the shoe to thereby anchor the decorative means in place, irrespective of the size of the heel of the shoe. The flexible connector includes metal links which are joined together by springs in the form of a stretch band.

Abstract: A device for the recording of the number of steps taken by a pedestrian incorporates a digital incremental counter in the heel -- or attached to the heel -- of a shoe. An operating member projects below the heel and initiates actuation of the counter each time the heel is brought into contact with the ground. Reading the digital display at the beginning and at the end of a stage in a trip yields the number of steps taken and a rough measure of the distance traversed. A reset lever or button may also be provided to zero the display at the start of the measurement cycle.
