Abstract: A running shoe sole having a relatively thin outer sole layer of hard, wear-resistant material, a midsole layer resilient cushioning material and a heel sole layer, provided between the outer sole and midsole layers along approximately the rear half of the sole. In accordance with preferred embodiments, an outer, longitudinally extending portion of the heel sole layer spans approximately 2/3 of the width of the heel sole layer and is formed of a resilient cushioning material, while an inner portion spanning approximately the remaining 1/3 of the width of the sole layer is formed of a material that is of a hardness of approximately 10-20 shore durometer greater than that of the outer portion of the heel sole layer. This construction of the heel sole layer enables cushioning of the foot during lateral heel strikes occurring during running to be provided by the outer portion of the heel while the inner portion is able to act in a manner which limits pronation occurring thereafter.

Abstract: A stabilization device for controlling the degree of roll of a running shoe which includes at least upper and lower laminar sole elements including an upper plate superposed on and substantially conforming to the top surface of the upper sole element, a lower plate spaced from said and interposed between the upper and lower sole elements and a side wall extending between and connected to the upper and lower plates and substantially conforming to the side of the upper sole element.

Abstract: A shoe or shoe insert is described which provides increased support to specific areas of the foot during the first and second trimesters and third trimester of pregnancy to compensate for changes in body weight and center of gravity which occurs as the term of pregnancy advances. A pad, which can be a shoe insole, is provided with these specific areas of support.

Abstract: A shoe of natural shape having a flexible material forming the upper part of the shoe, replacing the insole, and extending all over the sole surface to comprise a stocking-like part which extends over the last to envelop the foot on all sides, there being a recess in the heel portion of the footbed with a bearing surface rising from this recess on a forward rising angle to the arch, the bearing surface being cup-shaped with a peripheral edge connected to the stocking-like part.

Abstract: A shoe is disclosed utilizing interrelated structural elements for dynamic cooperation with the human foot to reduce the likelihood of injury or deterioration during strenuous activity or over extended intervals of time, while affording greater comfort and ease of motion. The shoe bottom includes a sole above which a platform provides a plurality of cylindrical spaces that receive plugs in loose telescopic relationship, to define spaces for coil springs. So mounted, the coil springs are stabilized against lateral displacement.Above the platform, the shoe bottom is affixed to an upper shoe covering to define a space for the wearer's foot. At the rear quarter of the shoe upper, a heel cup stabilizes the heel of a wearer's foot against lateral, medial, or posterior displacement as well as to distribute the forces on the heel reducing the likelihood of trauma.

Abstract: A walking boot assembly particularly suited for use with a positively pressurized spacesuit, including a bootie adapted to be secured to the foot of a wearer, an hermetically sealed boot for receiving the bootie having a walking sole, an inner sole and an upper portion adapted to be attached to an ankle joint of a spacesuit, a protuberance projected from the bootie and received within a recess formed in the inner sole of the boot for positioning the bootie relative to the boot, and releasable latching means for latching the protuberance in a received relationship with the recess.
