Abstract: According to one embodiment, an electromagnetic wave attenuator includes a multilayer member, and a magnetic member. The multilayer member includes a plurality of magnetic layers and a plurality of nonmagnetic layers. The plurality of nonmagnetic layers is conductive. A direction from one of the plurality of magnetic layers toward an other one of the plurality of magnetic layers is aligned with a first direction from the multilayer member toward the magnetic member. One of the plurality of nonmagnetic layers is between the one of the plurality of magnetic layers and the other one of the plurality of magnetic layers. A thickness along the first direction of the magnetic member is not less than ½ of a thickness along the first direction of the multilayer member.

Abstract: A write head having a main pole, a gap layer, and at least two sacrificial layers. In accordance with one embodiment, a method includes depositing a non-magnetic gap layer of material above a main pole layer of magnetic material; depositing a sacrificial layer of material above the non-magnetic gap layer of material; etching a portion of the sacrificial layer of material while not entirely removing the sacrificial layer of material; and depositing additional sacrificial material to the etched sacrificial layer.
Abstract: Embodiments provide a slanted bump magnetic shield in a perpendicular write head. The slanted bump magnetic shield provides a small throat height to maximize magnetic flux for writing to a magnetic media such as a magnetic storage disk in a hard disk drive, while avoiding saturation.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to the use of perovskite manganite thin films and other magnetic films that exhibit both planar Hall effect and biaxial magnetic anisotropy to form the active area in magnetic sensor devices and in magnetic bit cells used in magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) devices. The manganite thin films of the invention are ferromagnetic manganites of the formula R1-xAxMnO3, wherein R is a rare-earth metal, A is an alkaline earth metal, and x is generally between about 0.15 and about 0.5.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a thin-film magnetic head, the thin-film magnetic head including a recording head, includes the steps of: forming a first magnetic layer; forming a recording gap layer on the first magnetic layer; forming a second magnetic layer on the recording gap layer; and forming a thin-film coil. The recording gap layer is formed by stacking a plurality of insulating films formed by chemical vapor deposition.
