Laminated Patents (Class 360/125.28)
  • Patent number: 8958176
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a write head pole laminate structure. The write head pole structure can include multiple multi-layer magnetic structures that are separated by a non-magnetic material that is amorphous or microcrystalline. Each multi-layer magnetic structure includes one or more first magnetic layers that are spaced from one or more second magnetic layers by a non-magnetic layer such that the one or more first magnetic layers are substantially identical to the one or more second magnetic layers. In such a design, the one or more second magnetic layers are antiparallel to the one or more first magnetic layers so that a zero total net magnetic moment is present for the multi-layer magnetic structure when current is removed from the write head pole.

  • Patent number: 8896967
Abstract: A magnetic head includes a coil, a main pole, a write shield, and first and second yoke layers. The first and second yoke layers are magnetically connected to the write shield and aligned along the direction of travel of a recording medium such that the main pole is interposed therebetween. The coil includes a winding portion of planar spiral shape that is formed in one or more layers. The magnetic head further includes: a first coupling part located away from the medium facing surface and magnetically coupling the main pole and the second yoke layer to each other; and a second coupling part located away from the medium facing surface and magnetically coupling the first yoke layer and the second yoke layer to each other without touching the main pole. The winding portion is wound around the first coupling part, and a part of the winding portion passes between the first and second coupling parts.

  • Patent number: 8837085
Abstract: An apparatus is provided that generally relates to a data writer that may be constructed with a write pole coupled to a yoke. The yoke may be configured with a stabilizing layer that stabilizes magnetic domains present in the yoke. In some embodiments, the yoke has first and second sub-yokes.

  • Patent number: 8797685
Abstract: A magnetic write head for data recording having a magnetic write pole with a stepped magnetic shell structure that defines a secondary flare point. The secondary flare point defined by the magnetic shell portion can be more tightly controlled with respect to its distance from the air bearing surface (ABS) of the write head than can a traditional flare point that is photolithographically on the main pole structure. This allows the effective flare point of the write head to be moved much closer to the ABS than would otherwise be possible using currently available tooling and photolithography techniques. The write head also includes a non-magnetic spacer layer formed over the magnetic shell structure that is recessed from the ABS by a distance that is greater than that of the magnetic shell portion. A magnetic shield is formed over the magnetic shell and non-magnetic spacer.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a magnetic head includes a spin torque oscillator formed between a main magnetic pole and auxiliary magnetic pole. The spin torque oscillator includes a transmission-type spin transfer layer, first interlayer, oscillation layer, second interlayer, and reflection-type spin transfer layer. The transmission-type spin transfer layer includes a first perpendicular magnetization film and first interface magnetic layer. The first interface magnetic layer contains at least one element selected from Fe, Co, and Ni, and at least one element selected from Cr, V, Mn, Ti, and Sc. The reflection-type spin transfer layer includes a second perpendicular magnetization film.

  • Patent number: 8213116
Abstract: A magnetic layer for writing incorporates: a pole layer having an end face located in a medium facing surface; and an upper yoke layer. A first magnetic layer for flux concentration is connected to the pole layer at a location away from the medium facing surface, and passes a magnetic flux corresponding to a magnetic field generated by a first coil. A second magnetic layer for flux concentration is connected to the upper yoke layer at a location away from the medium facing surface, and passes a magnetic flux corresponding to a magnetic field generated by a second coil. A nonmagnetic layer is disposed between the pole layer and the upper yoke layer. The upper yoke layer is connected to the pole layer at a location closer to the medium facing surface than the nonmagnetic layer.

  • Patent number: 7593185
Abstract: An auxiliary yoke layer is provided on a main magnetic pole layer with a spacer layer provided therebetween. A rear end of the auxiliary yoke layer and a rear end of a return yoke layer are connected to each other. At all times except during recording, the presence of the spacer layer breaks the magnetic connection between the main magnetic pole layer and the auxiliary yoke layer. On the other hand, a recording magnetic field having a magnetic field strength significantly higher than that of a disturbance magnetic field reaches the main magnetic pole layer through the spacer layer. Thereby, the adverse effect of the disturbance magnetic field is suppressed and the recording property is appropriately maintained.
