    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a magnetic head includes a magnetic core including a main pole, and a return pole opposed to the main pole with a magnetic gap therebetween, and configured to return magnetic flux from the main pole and form a magnetic circuit in conjunction with the main pole, a coil configured to excite magnetic flux in the magnetic circuit, and a nonmagnetic electrically conductive layer formed by disposing only a nonmagnetic material in the magnetic gap between the return pole and an end portion of the main pole on the recording medium side, and configured to electrically connect the main pole and the return pole. The main pole, the nonmagnetic electrically conductive layer, and the return pole are configured to constitute a series electrical circuit.

    Abstract: A magnetic write pole structure that is configured to greatly simplify the manufacture of a perpendicular magnetic write head. The write head has a magnetic yoke that is oriented along a plane that is perpendicular to the direction of the data track. This allows the entire yoke to be formed in a single electroplating step, rather than being built up in several plated layers. The yoke can also be formed with magnetic side shields, or with a trailing or wrap around shield, which can be integral with the rest of the yoke and can be advantageously formed in the same, single electroplating step.

    Abstract: A method and system for providing a magnetic recording head is described. The magnetic recording head has an ABS configured to reside in proximity to a media during use. The magnetic recording head includes a main pole, first and second auxiliary poles, a backgap, a nonmagnetic spacer, and at least one coil. The main pole includes a pole tip occupying a portion of the ABS and a back edge distal from the ABS. Each auxiliary pole has a front recessed from the ABS and a back portion. A portion of the main pole distal from the ABS resides between the auxiliary poles. The auxiliary poles are magnetically coupled with the main pole. The backgap magnetically couples the back portions of the auxiliary poles. The nonmagnetic spacer adjoins the back edge of the main pole and is between the auxiliary poles. The coil(s) energize the main pole.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording head used for microwave-assisted magnetic recording includes: a main pole; a spin torque oscillator provided on the main pole, including a high-speed rotating magnetization layer in which the magnetization is rapidly rotated by a spin torque; a trailing shield provided on the spin torque oscillator; and a sub pole magnetically coupled to the trailing shield provided in a medium-facing surface, extending in a vertical direction to the medium-facing surface. Then, a non-magnetic electrode is provided on the outside of a trailing gap in which the spin torque oscillator is provided with respect to a magnetic material of the main pole, the trailing shield, or the sub pole, to prevent the line resistance variation due to the AMR effect or the eddy current. Thus, the variation of the current flowing to the spin torque oscillator can be controlled to achieve stable oscillation.

    Abstract: An auxiliary yoke layer is provided on a main magnetic pole layer with a spacer layer provided therebetween. A rear end of the auxiliary yoke layer and a rear end of a return yoke layer are connected to each other. At all times except during recording, the presence of the spacer layer breaks the magnetic connection between the main magnetic pole layer and the auxiliary yoke layer. On the other hand, a recording magnetic field having a magnetic field strength significantly higher than that of a disturbance magnetic field reaches the main magnetic pole layer through the spacer layer. Thereby, the adverse effect of the disturbance magnetic field is suppressed and the recording property is appropriately maintained.

The second magnetic layer has a pole portion layer and a yoke portion layer. The thin-film magnetic head further comprises a non-magnetic layer that is in contact with the surface of the pole portion layer farther from the gap layer. The non-magnetic layer prevents the surface of the pole portion layer farther from the gap layer from being damaged during the manufacturing process of the head, and thereby maintains the flatness of the surface.
