    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a magnetic recording device for utilizing assisted magnetic recording includes a magnetic head, a first circuit, a second circuit, a third circuit, and a controller. The magnetic head includes a first magnetic pole, a second magnetic pole, a magnetic element, and a coil. The magnetic element is located between the first magnetic pole and the second magnetic pole. The magnetic element includes a first magnetic layer. The first circuit is configured to supply a coil current to the coil. The second circuit is configured to supply an element current to the magnetic element. The third circuit is configured to detect an electrical resistance of the magnetic element. The controller is configured to control the element current by controlling the second circuit based on the electrical resistance detected by the third circuit.

    Abstract: An apparatus includes an array of write transducers. Each write transducer includes a lower yoke, a lower write pole piece comprising a lower base layer in magnetic communication with the lower yoke and a lower high moment layer above the lower base layer. Each write transducer includes a write gap above the lower write pole piece and an upper write pole piece above the write gap. The upper write pole piece includes an upper high moment layer above the write gap and an upper base layer above the upper high moment layer. Each write transducer includes an upper yoke above the upper base layer. A media facing side of the lower pole piece and at least a portion of a media facing side of the upper pole piece extend along a plane and the remainder of the media facing side of the upper pole piece is recessed from the plane.

    Abstract: A magnetic head comprises a pole layer, a shield layer, a gap layer disposed between the pole layer and the shield layer, and a coil. The shield layer incorporates a first layer, a second layer, a third layer and a fourth layer that are disposed on the gap layer one by one. The first layer has an end face located in a medium facing surface. The second layer has: a first surface located in the medium facing surface; a second surface touching the first layer; and a third surface opposite to the second surface. The third layer touches the third surface of the second layer. An end face of each of the third and fourth layers closer to the medium facing surface is located at a distance from the medium facing surface.

    Abstract: A magnetic film capable of generating strong magnetic fields even in a high frequency region, a manufacturing method therefore and a thin film magnetic head capable of recording even in a high frequency region are provided. In one embodiment, the magnetic film is manufactured by using a 88FeNi film of 200 nm thick having minimum Hk of 0.32 Oe (25.6 A/m) as a main magnetic film and selecting a 20 wt % FeNi film of a similar FeNi alloy plating film having low Hk and low Hc as an interlayer material. A stacked film comprising (88FeNi/20FeNi)×10 layers is prepared so that the total thickness of the main magnetic film is 2 ?m. The 88FeNi film is prepared by application of a DC current in a 88FeNi plating bath, and the 20FeNi film is prepared by pulse plating successively in the same bath.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a thin-film magnetic head having no ATE (adjacent track erase) problem, a very narrow track width, an excellent O/W (overwrite) characteristic and a high switching speed. A lower pole film of a write element is provided on one face of a lower yoke film inside a trench portion provided in an inorganic insulating film. A gap film and an upper pole film are provided inside the trench portion on the lower pole portion. The trench portion has preferably an attached film made of an inorganic material on the inner wall faces facing the side faces of said lower pole film, said gap film and said upper pole film.
