Pivot Detail Patents (Class 360/246.3)
  • Publication number: 20100296197
Abstract: A disk drive. The disk drive includes a head for accessing a disk, a suspension for supporting the head, a carriage coupled to the suspension, a pivot-bearing assembly, an adhesive, and an adhesion inhibitor. The pivot-bearing assembly is housed in a hole of the carriage that is configured to rotate in such a way that the carriage is configured to oscillate. The adhesive is disposed between the pivot-bearing assembly and an inner circumferential surface of the hole for bonding the pivot-bearing assembly with the carriage. The adhesion inhibitor is disposed on the same surface as the adhesive for controlling a region of adhesion.

  • Patent number: 7100269
Abstract: A slider comprises a slider section and an element section. The slider section has a first medium facing surface and an air inflow end. The element section has a second medium facing surface, an air outflow end, and a thin-film magnetic head element. The slider section and the element section are produced separately, and bonded to each other so that the air inflow end and the air outflow end are disposed on opposite sides with the first and second medium facing surfaces in between.

  • Patent number: 6914752
Abstract: A magnetic recording disk drive achieves continuous contact recording with a head-suspension assembly that compensates for the moment generated from an adhesive force between the head carrier or slider and the disk. The slider pivot point, which is the point where the load force is applied to the flexure that supports the slider, is located closer to the front end of the slider than the net force applied by the air-bearing surface of the slider when the disk is rotating at its operational speed. This assures that the net air-bearing force generates a moment about the pivot point to partially counteract the flexure moment and the moment generated from the adhesive force between the disk and the slider's contact pad.

  • Patent number: 6600635
Abstract: A data storage system capable of removing disk surface irregularities and/or contaminant particles on disk surfaces that may cause thermal asperities in the transducer output is provided. The data storage system provides selective in-situ operation between a normal read/write operation and a disk surface burnishing operation. One embodiment provides a data storage system, including: a data storage disk connected to a rotating actuator; a suspension load beam movably disposed above the data storage disk; and an air bearing slider assembly pivotally attached to the suspension load beam, the air bearing slider assembly including: a slider having an air bearing surface; a transducer disposed in a distal portion of the slider; a burnishing element disposed on the air bearing surface; and a pitch angle control assembly disposed in connection with the slider to control a pitch angle of the air bearing surface.

  • Patent number: 6411470
Abstract: A disk drive system for contact recording has a flexure beam holding a transducer at one end, the flexure beam being oriented substantially along the direction that the transducer slides on a rigid magnetic disk. The transducer has a protrusion which contacts the disk and separates the rest of the transducer from the moving air film that adjoins the spinning disk, the protrusion containing a magnetic pole structure that communicates with the disk during sliding. A preferred embodiment employs a gimbal structure which allows limited movement of the transducer relative to the flexure beam and three disk-contacting pads extending down from the transducer to make contact with the magnetic disk, at least one of the pads containing a magnetic pole structure and two of the pads trailing the third pad.
