Abstract: [Object] To provide a technology of a servo write head and the like capable of improving the recording accuracy of a servo pattern. [Solving Means] A servo write head according to the present technology includes a recording surface. This recording surface has a first region and a second region, and records a servo pattern on a magnetic tape by a magnetic gap, the first region being formed in with a first width a width direction and corresponding to a position where the magnetic gap is provided in a longitudinal direction perpendicular to the width direction, the second region being formed with a second width narrower than the first width and corresponding to a position where no magnetic gap is provided in the longitudinal direction.
Abstract: A mechanical interlock for securing a cover to a housing may include a cover latch coupled to a wall of a housing, and a spring biasing the cover latch in a first direction and coupled between the wall of the housing and the cover latch. The mechanical interlock may further include an arm coupled to the cover latch at a first end of the arm, and an electrical socket aperture defined within the wall of the housing juxtaposed to a second end of the arm. When the cover latch is returned to the first position via the spring after the cover is removed from the housing, the arm permits for the electrical cord to interface with the electrical socket.

Abstract: A magnetic-tape storage apparatus having a simple structure and being able to surely store magnetic tapes on each of which valuable data are recorded and the recorded data on them at a low cost and over a long period in a small space, a magnetic-tape storage apparatus comprises a housing, a cartridge storage part, a magnetic tape drive, a cartridge transfer device [18] to selectively transfer a plurality of cartridges stored in the cartridge storage part to the magnetic tape drive and to return to the original position, a cartridge data reading device to selectively and contactlessly read data retained in each memory chip of the cartridges stored in the cartridge storage part and a computer to control them and to rewind the cartridges timely.
Abstract: In one general embodiment, an apparatus includes a first outer module having an array of writers, a second outer module having an array of writers, an inner module positioned between the outer modules, and a first actuator for shifting the first outer module. The shifting is relative to the inner module, in a cross-track direction by about one half of a center-to-center pitch of the writers of the first outer module. The inner module has an array of readers.

Abstract: A removable storage cartridge system may include a linear push-push mechanism comprising a carriage having a lock bar and a lock bar spring, and an enclosure having a mounting bracket having a lock guide. The lock guide is configured to interact with the lock bar and spring such that, in response to a first pushing force, reception of the carriage into the mounting bracket positions the carriage into a locked position within the enclosure and, in response to a second pushing force, the carriage is released from the locked position and ejected from the system.

Abstract: A tape cassette includes a housing. The housing includes a top wall having a top surface and a bottom wall having a bottom surface. The bottom surface has a first surface portion being a flat surface portion and a second surface portion being a flat surface portion. The second surface portion extends generally parallel to the first surface portion and is located between the top surface and the first surface portion in a first direction. The first direction is orthogonal to the top surface or the first surface portion. A first indicator portion is provided on the second surface portion. The first indicator portion has a first protrusion protruding from the second surface portion. The first protrusion has a protruding end being located between the second surface portion and the first surface portion in the first direction.
Abstract: An assembly can include a first component; a second component that includes a socket; a processor and a memory accessible by the processor, the processor and memory being included in one or more of the first component and the second component; and an interconnection mechanism for pivotable interconnection of the first component and the second component about a pivot axis where the interconnection mechanism includes a hinge that defines the pivot axis, a prong pivotable about the pivot axis, a latch mechanism to latch the second component to the interconnection mechanism with the prong received by the socket of the second component, an actuator to unlatch the latch mechanism, and a lever to adjust the hinge to a high stiffness state to adjust the hinge to a low stiffness state. Various other apparatuses, systems, methods, etc., are also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention provides a system comprising a non-linear array of magnetoresistive (MR) heads arranged in a two-dimensional matrix for reading information stored on magnetic media. The non-linear array of MR heads may comprise a planar array formed by a plurality of linear arrays of MR heads stacked to define a plurality of layers. Each of the linear arrays may share at least one shield element with another linear array of the non-linear array. In general, each layer is offset by one written track pitch and the number of layers of the invention is equal to the number of written track pitches in a channel pitch. The invention can also be used in a system for reading and writing information to magnetic media at improved track pitches relative to conventional read/write systems.

Abstract: A magnetic head assembly in a linear tape system. The magnetic head assembly includes a magnetic head having a central section, a first outrigger, and a second outrigger. The central section maintains at least one read/write element. The first outrigger is positioned adjacent the central section and forms at least one air bleed slot. The second outrigger is positioned adjacent the central section opposite the first outrigger and also forms at least one air bleed slot. Finally, the central section is laterally moveable relative to the outriggers. With this configuration, the moveable, central section, otherwise used for lateral positioning of the read/write element relative to a magnetic tape, is separated from the outriggers that otherwise minimize a fly height between the magnetic tape and the outriggers.

Abstract: The read/write head assembly of a tape drive device is moved from a first read/write position to a second non-read/write position. A tape engaging surface maintains tape tension and path in the non-read/write position. Movement of the read/write head assembly to a non-read/write position prevents read/write head element wear during tape searching.
