Flexible Disk Patents (Class 360/254.1)
  • Patent number: 8049994
Abstract: A slider assembly for supporting a recording element in operative relation to a flexible moving recording medium is disclosed. The slider may have a face including air bearing surfaces positioned toward the recording medium. A recording element may be in an air bearing surface near the trailing edge of the face, wherein there is no other slider or other supporting surface on an opposite side of the recording medium. A vacuum cavity may be formed in the face for creation of sub-ambient pressure to attract the slider toward the recording medium. An air bearing surface may be provided with a transverse pressure contour (TPC) along at least one of its edges for providing flying height control, with the TPC having a step geometry. A mounting device may mount the slider in a biased manner toward the recording medium and urge the slider toward the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 6762912
Abstract: A disk drive has a rigid head cleaner with a textured surface. The texture lines are primarily orthogonal to the direction of movement of the read/write heads as they move across the head cleaner. The head cleaner may be coated with a diamond-like carbon protective coating or a lubricant. A soft head cleaning element may be placed next to the rigid head cleaner.

  • Patent number: 6747844
Abstract: If a floppy disk (200) is inserted into a disk drive unit, a link member (52) rotates due to the movement of the floppy disk (200), and a slide piece (61) recedes from under a projecting piece (131) of an upper head support arm (121). In consequence, the distal end of the upper head support arm (121) descends, so that an upper head which is mounted on the distal end of the upper head support arm approaches a lower head which is mounted on the distal end of a lower head support arm.

  • Patent number: 6628476
Abstract: A threader prevents misthreading of a flexible magnetic media when it is inserted into a disk drive. The threader is situated in the disk drive such that it has a height greater than a height of a lower half of a load ramp, upon which the disk driver's rotary actuator parks when it is not reading or writing to the disk. Preferably, the threader is a pliable piece of material that is ramp shaped.

  • Patent number: 6563768
Abstract: A magneto-optical memory device includes a first unit projecting a light beam onto a desired position on a recording medium, and a second unit applying a magnetic field to a position onto which the light beam is projected. The second unit applies, to the recording medium, a predetermined magnetic field within a magnetic field intensity range wherein a rate of change of a reproduced signal amplitude at the time of reproduction with respect to a magnetic field intensity becomes large. The relative positions of the second unit and the first unit are adjusted in accordance with a reproduced signal amplitude thus obtained.

  • Patent number: 6542338
Abstract: A disk apparatus has a mechanism for adjusting a head load pressure exerted on a lower surface of a floppy disk by a lower magnetic head. The magnetic head load pressure adjustment mechanism is fixed to a carriage body, and includes a lower suspension and a head load pressure adjustment lever. The lower suspension has a head load spring portion, the spring force of which generates the load pressure exerted on the lower surface of the floppy disk by the lower magnetic head. Rotating the head load pressure adjustment lever changes the state of the deflection of the head load spring portion, thereby adjusting the head load pressure of the lower magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 6477015
Abstract: A movable member 35 is moved back or forth by a motor 33. A carriage opening/closing member 41 which vertically guides a pair of projections 40 opposingly formed on opposed faces is disposed between upper and lower carriages 36 and 37 which are elastically supported on the movable member 35 and vertically opposed to each other. Reading/writing heads 19 which are opposingly disposed on the opposed faces of the upper and lower carriages 36 and 37 are separated from magnetic data recording surfaces 7 of a magnetic data recording medium 6. When the carriage opening/closing member is moved in a direction opposite to the above, the upper and lower reading/writing heads 19 are contacted with the magnetic data recording surfaces 7 by a predetermined load pressure.

  • Patent number: 6317295
Abstract: The supporting member is provided with the leaf spring arms at its upper surface and lower surface, and each of the extremity ends of the arms is provided with each of the magnetic heads. In addition, the lower surface of the arm is provided with the adjusting section. This adjusting section is comprised of a reinforcing leaf spring fixed at its base end to the supporting member and its extremity end is abutted against the lower surface of the arm. In addition, the adjusting screw is arranged at the reinforcing leaf spring and its extremity end is fixed to the supporting member. This adjusting screw is operated to change a resilient force of the reinforcing leaf spring to enable a height position where the magnetic heads and the disc are slid to be adjusted.
