  • Patent number: 8570688
Abstract: In a disk drive suspension circuit, an electrical contact from a flexible circuit to a face of a PZT microactuator is provided by a mechanical bias to press a contact pad of the flexible circuit against the PZT surface. The mechanical bias is provided by a piece of stainless steel that is welded to a nearby point or points on the suspension, and which biases the electrical contact pad carrying the PZT driving voltage against the PZT. The piece of stainless steel may be in the form of a flat piece welded on one or more sides of the contact pad, and may include a dimple for pressing against the contact pad. Additional insulation material may be provided between the dimple and the contact pad to prevent the dimple from penetrating through the flexible circuit's cover layer and shorting the driving voltage.

  • Patent number: 7262939
Abstract: A top pole piece of a voice coil motor (VCM) is attached to a hard disk drive cover without screw fasteners and with minimal loss of VCM magnetic flux capacity. A pair of leaf springs are supported at both ends, rather than by cantilever, to more uniformly distribute mechanical stress throughout the springs so that less space is required to achieve the same transverse load as a cantilevered spring of the same profile. The smaller space envelope required by this design minimizes the loss of magnetic flux capacity of the VCM. Each leaf spring has two integral legs, central portions of which are rigidly fastened to the drive cover. The end of each leg opposite the central portion applies a force against the cover in the assembled disk drive.

  • Patent number: 7054110
Abstract: A carriage arm assembly is disclosed that has a sub-assembly and a signal relay member that is arranged on a side surface of an arm portion of a carriage arm of the sub-assembly for connection between a head slider and a head IC. The signal relay member includes a wire, a wrapping portion that is formed from a synthesized resin mixed with a charging prevention agent, and two pairs of hooks that are projecting from the wrapping portion. When the hooks are in contact with the arm portion of the carriage arm, static electricity possessed by the signal relay member flows away through the carriage arm, and this prevents a magnetic head at the end of the head slider from being destroyed by the static electricity. In addition, the hooks are engaged with grooves on the signal relay member so as to position the signal relay member on the arm portion.
