Abstract: A system and method for efficiently starting up a plurality of solid-state storage devices. A computing system includes one or more storage devices storing data in multiple allocation units (AUs). In a boot region, a data storage controller maintains an AU management set that identifies a state of various AUs in the system. In various embodiments, the management set includes an identification of a subset of free AUs, transitional AU, unincorporated AUs, and speculative AUs. At various times, information corresponding to the AU management set is stored to non-volatile storage. During a boot sequence, the AU management set information is accessed and the identified AUs are searched to identify allocated AUs rather than performing a search of all of the AUs in the system.

Abstract: In a cleaning controller for a recording head of a recorder connected to an external device, a timer acquires a first time value indicating a current time from the external device, and performs cyclic clocking in which a first predetermined time period is repetitively clocked from a predetermined time point. A nonvolatile storage medium stores a second time value indicating a time at which a cleaning operation is lastly performed. A determinant compares the first and the second time values to obtain a third time value, and determines whether a cleaning operation is necessary to be performed based on the third time value. A cleaner performs a cleaning operation of the recording head based on the result determined by the determinant.

Abstract: In a method for minimizing errors in sensors used for a recording apparatus of car accidents, data including acceleration, yaw-rate, vehicle speed measured at the transmission, and steering angle are first measured by sensors, then error in forward acceleration is corrected on the basis of vehicle speed measured at the transmission. Next, error in lateral acceleration is corrected on the basis of vehicle speed and steering angle measured by a steering angle sensor, then error in rotational angular velocity is corrected on the basis of steering angle and vehicle speed. Finally, data is recorded as corrected values.

In one implementation, a decision to record a piece of music from the beginning can be made anytime during the playing of the music. In others, a decision to record a video program from the beginning can be made during the program. In a portable video camera, a decision to save a boy's turn at bat can be made after he hits a home run.

  • Patent number: 6259977
Abstract: An aircraft data analysis computer program and method that allows user-defined measurements to be made on a set of flight data obtained from a variety of sources. Post-flight measurement and trending analysis software provides a user configurable measurement system using user-defined measurement definitions for analyzing flight data from a variety of sources. Measurements that require nonsequential analysis of the sequential flight data file can be performed. Data from a variety of aircraft types, from a variety of flight data recorders and from other sources of flight data can be analyzed by translating the data into fleet-independent terms, so that the performance of different fleets or different aircraft types can be compared. The user can perform trending, characterization and statistical analyses on the flight data information. The results of the user-defined measurements are stored in a flight analysis database and may be viewed by the user in a variety of display formats.

  • Patent number: 6167186
Abstract: An input image is digitized. The corresponding digital video data are reproduced while they are successively recorded on a magnetic video device. A successive recording control unit manages at which position of a successive recording area the digital data are to be successively recorded to realize the endless recording in a limitative recording area. When an event occurs, the control unit manages to exclude the recorded image before and after the corresponding event image from the endless recording area so that the event image can be held as an event recording image. Since the monitored image can be reproduced while it is recorded, it can be reproduced timely retroactively, and the image before and after an event occurs can also be reproduced instantaneously. Further, since the recording is continued while the image is reproduced, event images corresponding to plural events can be left.

Abstract: Actual time of operation of a plurality of motorized vehicles is automatically recorded utilizing an operation logging circuit installed in each of the vehicles. Each operation logging circuit in each vehicle includes a memory button located in a protected enclosure and programmed with a unique vehicle identification code. Each memory button also has an electronic register for accumulating aggregate vehicle operation time. The memory button is electrically connected to the vehicle direct current electrical system for detecting actuation and deactuation of vehicle operation. For example, the connections to the memory button may be from the contacts for enabling the power steering, contacts for engaging the vehicle for forward and reverse movement, or contacts for the key switch for providing electrical power to the vehicle.
