Abstract: In a signal recording-reproduction apparatus having a reel chassis slidably mounted on a main chassis, a reel support drive device transmits the rotation of a capstan motor serving as a power source to one of two reel supports through a swing idler mechanism on the main chassis and through a gear mechanism on the reel chassis. The gear mechanism includes at least two gears rotatable in the same direction and arranged along the sliding direction of the reel chassis. As the reel chassis slides along away from the head cylinder of the apparatus, an idle gear comes into meshing engagement with each of the two gears one after another to continue the rotation of the above reel support, whereby the magnetic tape pulled out around the head cylinder is wound up inside the tape cassette during the sliding movement of the reel chassis.

  • Patent number: 4807077
Abstract: Disclosed is a tape cassette for short-time recording having an interchangeability with a long-playing standard tape cassette. The short-time cassette has the external size and functions substantially the same as that of the standard tape cassette. The casing of the short-time tape cassette is provided with a large aperture the area of which is made larger than that of an aperture formed in the bottom of the standard tape cassette, owing to the reduction in the diameters of the reel flanges. With this arrangement, it is possible to accommodate the mechanism including the tape path within the outside dimensions of the tape cassette, thus allowing miniaturization of the mechanism of the apparatus which handles the tape. At the same time, a perfect interchangeability between the short-time tape cassette and the standard tape cassette is obtained, so that users can operate both types of the tape cassette on an identical player such as a VTR.

  • Patent number: 4802034
Abstract: Described is a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus wherein a magnetic tape is placed on and adapted to travel along the outer periphery of a tape guide drum which is provided with rotary magnetic heads for recording image signals or the like information signals on the magnetic tape or reproducing such signals already recorded on the magnetic tape. A loading ring for winding the magnetic tape about the guide drum and a loading lever unit for shifting tape guide means for pulling and placing the tape along a predetermined tape route are driven by common rotational driving means so that the overall size of the apparatus may be reduced. In addition, the operation of the loading ring and that of the loading lever unit are adapted to occur in two separate stages of operation in such a manner that the magnetic tape is unloaded first of all from the tape guide drum and then unloaded from the remaining tape guide means for preventing an injury to the magnetic tape during tape unloading.

  • Patent number: 4800450
Abstract: Tape guides of a magnetic tape transport machine are controlled during movement by sensing the position of the member as it moves along a defined path in varying velocity corresponding to the position. The member is initially accelerated at a selected rate to a maximum velocity which is then maintained until a distance close to the end position is reached. Velocity is then reduced at a selected rate until another position closer to the end position is reached. At this position a final velocity is maintained until the end is reached. A determination is made of how closely the second distance from the end coincided with reaching the final velocity. The length of the first distance from the end position is adjusted to reduce the difference between the coincidence of reaching the second distance and the final velocity. Further, the sensed final position of the member is retained as the target final position for the subsequent operation.
