Drum Record Patents (Class 360/87)
  • Patent number: 6819523
Abstract: A data storing device of the present invention includes a cylindrical or hollow cylindrical data storing medium rotatable about its own axis and having a storage layer formed on its circumferential surface for storing data. A head adjoins the storage layer for writing or reading data in or out of the storage layer. A head moving mechanism causes the head to move back and forth along the axis of the data storing medium. A drive motor includes a stator and a rotor spaced from the stator and directly coaxially connected to the data storing medium.

  • Patent number: 5754517
Abstract: A high speed information read/write system includes a substantially cylindrical information storing device including at least one storage cylinder having at least one information storage medium thereon. A head device including at least one head cylinder is disposed coaxially with the storage cylinder and has a plurality of head members mounted thereon. An information input/output device outputs information to the information storage medium of the storage cylinder through the head device and inputs the information from the information storage medium through the head device. A drive device rotates the information storing device and effects a relative movement between the information storing device and the head device.

  • Patent number: 5119257
Abstract: A rotary head device having a rotary drum and a rotating motor within the rotary drum, with the stator of the motor being supported by a fixed arm attached to a fixed drum or to a fixed drum supporting member. The construction permits the manufacture of the rotary head device using the manufacturing equipment used for conventional rotary shaft type rotary head devices despite the rotary head device being a thin device. In this rotary head device the position of contact of a ground brush and a rotor can be set at the center of rotation or thereabouts, so despite it being a thin device, the sliding speed of the ground brush is low, and hence it is possible to prevent the abrasion of the ground brush and also to prevent increase of the rotative driving torque.

  • Patent number: 4633351
Abstract: Problems of wear and bounce created by imperfections in the surface of a magnetic recording medium, such as a chromium dioxide-coated drum, are circumvented by a hydrodynamic magnetographic imaging technique that provides the intended effective intimate contact between the recording head the magnetographic recording surface. A readily evaporatable liquid (e.g. water, alcohol, acetone) is applied to the surface of the drum slightly upstream of the location of the recording head, so as to create a liquid bearing against which the recording head is urged, and thereby intimately magnetically coupled with the surface of the drum, except for an extremely thin liquid film between the head and drum surface. As a result of this extremely thin liquid bearing, continuous pressure can be applied to the head to maintain the head in effective intimate contact with the surface of the recording medium without the fear of scratching the medium or causing wear on the head.

  • Patent number: 4578717
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproduction apparatus are provided employing a flat, flexible magnetic record member, such as a plastic sheet or card coated with or containing a magnetic recording material and having parallel closely spaced record tracks. In one form, a flexible record card is arcuately deformed into the configuration of a cylinder or a partial cylinder and one or more magnetic transducers are caused to scan a selected circular track of the card and to record on and/or reproduce from the selected track. Rapid relative axial movement between the arcuately deformed card and the transducer is effected until the transducer becomes aligned with a selected track of the card, whereupon transducing is automatically effected for scanning at least a selected portion of such selected track.

  • Patent number: 4567535
Abstract: A recording and/or reproducing apparatus is loaded with a recording medium which comprises a substantially cylindrical part, a hollow part at least open at one end thereof, and a recording surface formed at least on a peripheral surface of the cylindrical part. The apparatus comprises a rotational motor having at least one part thereof relatively inserted within the hollow part of the recording medium which is loaded, to be coupled to the recording medium, a recording and/or reproducing transducer for recording and/or reproducing an information signal onto and/or from the recording surface of the recording medium which is rotated by the motor, and a feeding circuit for feeding the recording and/or reproducing transducer along the recording surface.

  • Patent number: 4005491
Abstract: An announcing system including a message drum with a plurality of listening-recording heads radially spaced around the message drum, each of the listening-recording heads being adapted to traverse a portion of the surface of the message drum, and each of the listening-recording heads having an erase head associated therewith. A master timer is provided, and synchronizing means associated with the message drum provides a synchronizing pulse to maintain proper relationship between the master timer and rotation of the message drum. A control circuit allows a recording station to be selectively connected to the listening-recording heads for recording a message on a message track of the message drum and a subscriber station to be selectively connected to the listening-recording heads for listening to a message that has been recorded on the message drum.
