Abstract: Circuitry, systems and methods that address the need to coordinate relay switching with another event, such as a zero crossing of an alternating current (AC) voltage waveform are described. In some embodiments, the systems and methods continuously or periodically calibrate the timing of control signals to a relay, such that the switching of the relay in response to some (e.g., second or subsequent) control signals occurs closer in time to a zero crossing of an AC line voltage than the switching of the relay in response to other (e.g., initial or first) control signals.

Abstract: A period adjustment circuit of disconnection and restart IC comprises a second capacitor, which is connected to a resistor and a transistor connected in parallel. One end of the resistor is connected between the disconnection and restart IC and the first capacitor. When lockup of a fan motor occurs, in addition that an IC current source charges the first capacitor, the second capacitor also charges the first capacitor via the resistor until the voltage of the first capacitor reaches a disconnection voltage. The IC then enters into the disconnection state, and the voltages of the two capacitors are equal so that the second capacitor no longer charges the first capacitor. Next, the IC current source simultaneously charges the first and second capacitors until the voltage of the first capacitor reaches a system reset voltage. The first capacitor is then discharged to a restart voltage by the IC.

Abstract: A known method of addressing relays in an array is to provide two windings on each relay, wherein one winding is associated with a row drive signal and one winding is associated with a column drive signal, and half of the required activation current is provided by each winding. A known limitation of such addressing arrangements is limited discrimination between selected relays and non-selected relays. The present invention relates to an enhanced addressing system for such arrays of relays.

Abstract: A bulk degaussing apparatus and method for erasing magnetic media of various sizes. A media passage track is provided such that media passing therethrough is uniformly exposed to the magnetic fields provided through the gap. The bulk degaussing apparatus has fixed magnetic pole pairs predisposed for generating uniform magnetic field elements across a gap projecting magnetic flux across the gap for erasing various sizes of magnetic media, with the magnetic media receiving track positioned relative to the poles such that adjacent like poles are arranged on each side of the gap to counteract fringing effects. The bulk degaussing method for erasing various sizes of magnetic media provides a plurality of fixed magnetic pole pairs for generating uniform magnetic field elements on one or more sides of a degaussing region projecting magnetic flux into the region, and arranges the plurality of fixed poles so that adjacent poles counteract fringing effects.

Abstract: A system (12) and method for controlling an armature (20) of an electromagnetic actuator (10) are provided. The system (12) includes a circuit (46) for providing current to the coils (32, 34) of electromagnets (16, 18) disposed on either side of the armature (20). The system (12) also includes an electronic control unit (ECU) (50). The ECU (50) is configured to determine the neutral position of a virtual spring corresponding to the combination of forces acting on the armature 20 including the magnetic force of the attracting electromagnet (16 or 18) and the force of a restoring spring (22 or 24) opposing movement of the armature (20) towards the attracting electromagnet (16 or 18). The ECU (50) is further configured to control the current in the coil (32 or 34) of the attracting electromagnet (16 or 18) responsive to the determined neutral position so as to minimize the velocity of the armature as it reaches the pole face (36 or 38) of the attracting electromagnet (16 or 18).

This control apparatus includes a controller. This controller performs feedback control such that a value of a current which is actually supplied to the electromagnet becomes substantially equal to a value of a desired attracting current when displacing the movable portion by supplying an attracting current to the electromagnet. Abstract: The thermal protection relay determines a value representative of the thermal image of an apparatus to be protected according to a measured current value, to a previous value of the thermal image and to preset heating and cooling time constants. The relay takes into account a non-zero initial thermal image, determined from experimental thermal resistance curves of the apparatus. In the case of a motor, for example, this enables the cold tripping curve of the relay to be lowered without modifying the hot tripping curve, so as to bring the tripping curves of the relay closer to the thermal resistance curves of the motor.
