Bed Patents (Class 362/130)
  • Patent number: 4220984
Abstract: The present invention is an illumination device for use in combination with a waterbed which includes a plastic membrane which takes the shape of a mattress when it is filled with water and which is adapted to be filled with water and a frame having a headboard, four legs and base which is adapted to receive the elastic membrane after it has been filled with water. The illumination device includes a light source which is optically coupled to the water in the plastic membrane through the plastic membrane and which is mechanically coupled to the frame; and a transformer which has an on-off switch which is electrically coupled to a wall outlet and a transformer for stepping down the current through said on-off switch. The light source includes a lamp which is electrically coupled to the transformer and a prism-shape container in which the lamp is disposed and through a glass sidewall of which the lamp is optically coupled to the water in the plastic membrane.

  • Patent number: 4149222
Abstract: A bed light safety apparatus which includes a normally wall mounted lighting fixture. The upper rearward edge of the fixture is pivotally mounted to a plate adapted for attachment to a wall. One embodiment of the apparatus includes a switch carried by the fixture. When used in conjunction with a hospital bed or the like which is power operated to a raised position, the switch is made a part of the electrical circuit for the bed drive means. In the event equipment carried by the bed strikes the fixture on raising of the bed, the consequent pivotal movement of the fixture causes the switch to open the circuit to the bed drive means and halt further raising of the bed. In other embodiments the safety apparatus may include visual or auditory alarms actuable by a switch in the fixture.

  • Patent number: 4104710
Abstract: A patient room headwall unit consisting of an integral module for suspension on the headwall of a hospital room between two patient beds. The unit, which is prewired during assembly at the factory, includes a center section having provisions for gas, communication or nurse call and electrical services, the same being accessible at either bed through use of pendant controls and the like. It also includes a lighting section at either side of the central section for providing reading light and both high and low intensity general room illumination at each patient bed. The unit, ordinarily, will be installed in conjuction with ceiling-drop services and a telescopic shroud is provided to conceal these services once installation has been completed.

  • Patent number: 4067005
Abstract: An alarm system for an invalid in a hopsital bed includes electric switches placed on top of the side rails and foot rail so that a force applied to any of said switches by a patient results in activation of a warning device. In addition, means is provided for selectively illuminating the hospital bed. Two basic configurations of electric switches are provided, both of which are characterized by the provision of a first switch member which is actuated by light pressure or force, and a second switch member which is actuated by heavier pressure, e.g. when the patient attempts to climb or crawl out of the bed, which could result in injury to the patient due to a fall from the bed to the floor. The switch members when actuated serve to close electric circuits which may sound a buzzer, and/or a call bell, and/or illuminate the bed, so that a nurse or attendant is amply alerted to give attention to the patient.
