  • Patent number: 8608351
Abstract: This is directed to a luminaire having a removable inner accessory and optical component. A luminaire can include a base and an outer accessory through which light generated by a light source placed in the base is transmitted. To customize the light emitted by the luminaire, an inner accessory having an optical component can be placed within the outer accessory. The optical component can be tuned to provide a light pattern corresponding to an environment in which the luminaire is placed. Because all of the components used to create the luminaire, other than the optical component, are standard, the luminaire can be easily constructed with a default optical component, but also easily customized at a minimal cost. In addition, the optical component can be recessed relative to the outer accessory to improve optical performance of the luminaire.

  • Patent number: 8602602
Abstract: An LED downlight provides a more evenly distributed light output. The LED downlight includes an LED light source, such as one or more LEDs, LED die packages, or LED chip on board modules, an upper reflector, a lower reflector disposed below the upper reflector, and a lens disposed between the upper reflector and the lower reflector. The lens includes several features that help disperse light emitted by the LED light source. The lens includes a diffusion element, such as a pigment, bulk scattering, prismatic, inlays, or another method for diffusing light through a lens. The lens is curved in a concave manner when viewed from the light source. The curve of the lens can be tangent to the physical cutoff of the lower reflector to more evenly distribute light emitted by the LED light source and to improve the visual effect of an evenly luminous lens.

Abstract: A lighting device, comprising a housing and at least one mounting clip. The housing comprises an electrical connection region engageable in an electrical receptacle. The mounting clip is pivotable from a first position, where an end region of the mounting clip does not extend beyond a periphery of the housing, to a second position, where the end region extends beyond the housing periphery. Also, a lighting device, comprising a housing, a trim element and at least one mounting clip. The mounting clip is pivotable, such that if the mounting clip is in a second position and then the trim element is rotated, the mounting clip will pivot to a third position, where the mounting clip engages the housing such that the trim element is biased toward a ceiling or other structure in which the lighting device is mounted. Also, methods of installing housings and/or trim elements.

Abstract: A lighting fixture forms at least a portion of a grid system for a suspended ceiling. The lighting fixture includes a runner having a substantially uniform, elongate, thin web coupled to a fixture base defining first and second flanges disposed on opposite sides of the web. The flanges support respective ceiling tiles. The base defines a fixture receptacle configured to receive a light source. A retainer may be supported by the fixture base to secure the light source in the fixture receptacle.

  • Patent number: 8579458
Abstract: A V-shaped leaf spring is provided, at one side of the leaf spring, with a plurality of pressing parts curved convexly toward the other side thereof and arc-shaped in cross section along a longitudinal direction of the leaf spring. The leaf spring is appropriately attached to a lighting apparatus main body so that a region of the leaf spring at a bent part thereof is located downward. Thus, upon installation of the lighting apparatus main body into an attachment hole provided in a ceiling, either one of the plurality of pressing parts abuts against the ceiling having different thicknesses from above, and a sufficient downward pressing force can be exerted on the ceiling having different thicknesses, thereby allowing the component to be fixed to the ceiling with a sufficient holding force.

  • Patent number: 8562168
Abstract: A perimeter lighting fixture has housing and a separate trim piece. The trim piece is attached to a wall. A wall compound, such as plaster, is smoothed over a blend area or band on the wall just below the trim piece, and also onto a transition section of the trim piece. The housing and/or a reflector of the perimeter lighting fixture is positioned in contact with the trim piece. The trim piece compensates for waviness or uneven wall surfaces. As the trim piece is straight, the variances in wall straightness are corrected. This allows the lighting fixture to be placed against or closely adjacent to the wall, without creating unsightly dark gaps between them, and without highlighting the imperfections in the wall.

Abstract: A solar lighting apparatus uses optical fibers to transmit solar light for illumination. The apparatus includes a support frame, optical fibers, a hybrid solar light diffuser and a reflective sheet. The optical fibers are fastened to the support frame and are spaced apart from each other at regular intervals. The hybrid solar light diffuser is coupled to a lower portion of the support frame and includes a diffusion plate and diffusion lenses which are provided on the diffusion plate at positions corresponding to the respective optical fibers. Each diffusion lens has a width increasing from a top thereof to a bottom. An incident depression is formed in the upper end of each diffusion lens. A reflective surface is formed on the circumferential outer surface of each diffusion lens to diffuse and reflect solar light. The reflective sheet is applied to the lower surface of the support frame.
