  • Patent number: 6834977
Abstract: Separate leads and a common lead are provided on the upper and lower surfaces of a substrate. A plurality of LED elements are disposed in an array on the common lead on the upper surface of the substrate. The common lead provided on the upper surface of the substrate is connected to the common lead provided on the lower surface of the substrate through through-hole plating. Heat generated from the plurality of LED elements is transferred through the common lead provided on the upper surface of the substrate and the through-hole plating to the common lead provided on the lower surface of the substrate and is release therefrom into the air. By virtue of this construction, an light emitting device can be realized in which heat radiating properties are homogenized, heat radiation efficiency is improved, and a compact structure is obtained and, thus, the color balance is improved and unfavorable phenomena such as lowering in the output of light emitting elements and shortening of the service life are avoided.

Abstract: An LED flashlight assembly includes a body, a battery seat mounted in the body and provided with a plurality of LEDs, and a lamp seat mounted on the body and formed with a plurality of through holes for passage of the LEDs of the battery seat. The lamp seat is formed with an arcuate catch edge encompassing the periphery of the through holes. Thus, the arcuate catch edge encompasses the periphery of the through holes, so as to refract the beams of refracted and dispersed light emitted from the LEDs, so that the beams of refracted and dispersed light emitted from the LEDs are concentrated, collected and integrated into the beams of flat and smooth light, thereby enhancing the brightness of the LED flashlight assembly.

Abstract: A light device having a battery and lamp housing and a hinged top door. Batteries and a lamp holder are located within the housing and are accessible by opening the hinged top door. As the hinged top door is opened, a cam surface that holds the batteries in tight contact with the lamp holder moves away from the batteries, thereby releasing the tension holding the batteries in place within the housing. The batteries can therefore be easily loaded and unloaded. Likewise, as the hinged top door is closed, the tension holding the batteries in place is reapplied to the batteries to create a circuit for powering a lamp engaged with the lamp holder. Furthermore, the lamp engaged with the lamp holder is also accessed through the hinged top door.

  • Patent number: 6161938
Abstract: A flashlight particularly useful by safety personnel such as a firefighter and capable of operation with rechargeable battery means or non-rechargeable battery means. The flashlight includes a one-piece plastic casing having a tubular body portion defining a battery compartment and a right angled head portion in which a light bulb is mounted. The battery compartment is closed by an end cap on which electrical conductive means is mounted to form a part of the battery circuit when non-rechargeable batteries are placed in the compartment. A plurality of charging contacts are mounted on the rear wall of the body portion of the flashlight for enabling rechargeable batteries to be recharged while in the compartment. The charging contacts are recessed within the rear wall of the battery compartment so that they can not be engaged by non-rechargeable batteries within the compartment.

Abstract: An underwater light has a head assembly including a reflector, a light source located in the head assembly and movable relative to the reflector, a housing that moves relative to a slide that engages the switch such that it is twist activated. Continued twisting adjusts the position of the light source to adjust beam spread. Bearings are included in the head assembly to allow the twisting action to be effected under high pressure, while o-ring seals prevent leakage.

  • Patent number: 6050699
Abstract: A torch light having a case containing batteries and an assembly formed by a bulb and connecting circuit arranged on a cylinder mounted with limited rotation in a circular housing of the case between a first rest position allowing access to the first compartment for fitting or removal of the batteries and a second work position commanding lighting of the torch. The cylinder has a ramp cooperating with the batteries when switching from the first rest position to the second work position takes place to allow the first contact and the second contact to come into engagement with the respective terminals of opposite polarities of said batteries. A pushbutton operating the switch is able to be in an inactive position corresponding to the closed state of the switch when the second contact is bearing against one of the terminals, and an active position urging the switch to the open state following separation of the terminal with the second contact.

Abstract: The present invention provides a collapsible lantern including a base adapted to house a power source, and a telescoping portion movable, relative to the base, between an extended position and a collapsed position. The telescoping portion includes a light source electrically connected to the power source. A switch electrically connected between the power source and the light source interrupts the electrical connection between the power source and the light source when the telescoping portion is in the collapsed position.

  • Patent number: 5904414
Abstract: A flashlight that includes a substantially watertight battery housing, a bulb mounted in a socket assembly, a reflector, and a lens covering a forward end of the reflector. A plurality of batteries are supported in the housing so that only if the batteries are correctly polarized will a circuit be completed to allow current from the batteries to energize the bulb. This reduces the emission of flammable gas or corrosive liquid from the batteries. A membrane seals a vent port in the battery housing and is made of a material that permits a flammable gas generated by the batteries within the housing to continuously escape from the housing through the membrane without permitting water to enter the housing through the membrane. Pellets are mounted inside the battery housing for neutralizing the effects of any flammable gas emitted within the battery housing that may have nevertheless been produced and not adequately vented.

  • Patent number: 5826971
Abstract: A method and apparatus for selectively focusing a flashlight are provided. The apparatus includes a flashlight (10) having a flashlight body (12) with a cavity (32) therein and further having an actuator-receiving opening (204) through a portion of the flashlight body. A reflector (90) for reflecting light and a lamp (24) for producing light are disposed within the cavity (32). A housing assembly (302) is disposed within the cavity and moveable therein. The housing assembly includes a housing (34). An actuator (30) extends into the actuator-receiving opening and couples to the housing. The lamp and reflector are associated with the housing assembly whereby movement of the housing assembly allows relative movement of the lamp and the reflector to allow focusing of light from the lamp when an operator causes the actuator to move.

  • Patent number: 5806964
Abstract: A miniature flashlight comprising a barrel, tailcap, head, bulb holder, bulb and an electrical circuit. The bulb holder is positioned at one end of the barrel such that the bulb extends into the head. The head includes a parabolic reflector surrounding the bulb such that the rotation of the head relative to the barrel changes the focus of the flashlight beam. A rotary switch associates the bulb holder with the barrel to control opening and closing of the electrical circuit. Rotation of the head away from the barrel closes the electrical circuit. The head is not a part of the electrical circuit and its removal exposes the bulb for substantially spherical illumination. The head assembly is removable from the barrel for use as a base into which the tailcap and barrel is inserted to stand the miniature flashlight in its "on" condition, as a lamp.

  • Patent number: 5669706
Abstract: A turn-on-and-off device for a flashlight includes an actuating disc located in front of a casing. The actuating disc has a center hole for a lamp to pass through and three posts extending laterally rearward to pass through three position holes in a front end wall of the casing. The actuating disc can be moved by a lamp housing being screwed to move forward and rearward. When the actuating disc is in a forward position, the three posts permit the foremost battery to contact with the lamp bottom to let the lamp lit up. When the actuating disc is in a rearward position, the three posts push rearward the foremost battery, which is then separated from the lamp, which is then turned off.
