Patent number: 7264366Abstract: An illumination device simulates neon lighting using a light source for emitting light of a predetermined first hue and a light-transmitting medium having a predetermined density of phosphorescent dye positioned adjacent to the light source. The phosphorescent dye will absorb light emitted by the light source and emit light of a second hue. Patent number: 7237909Abstract: A LED light source is formed of a plurality of LEDs (light-emitting diodes). Primary optical axes of respective LEDs are set to be perpendicular to the plane surface (LED arranging plane surface). A first LED light source emits a light in red, a second LED light source emits a light in green, and a third LED light source emits a light in blue. An optical member has a first dichroic mirror portion and a second dichroic mirror portion alternately arranged, and the mirror potions inclined and arranged so as to form a saw-tooth appearance. Both the first dichroic mirror portion and the second dichroic mirror portion are designed to transmit the light in blue, and reflect lights in other colors.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2005Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: Sanyo Electronic Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoshihiro Yokote, Takashi Ikeda, Hideyuki Kanayama

Patent number: 7237924Abstract: An LED signal using a novel optical element to control the light distribution of a small LED light source. Light emitted by the LEDs illuminates the optical element. The optical element has a plurality of clusters, shaped along the x-, y- and z-axis to control the light. After the light is distributed, it encounters a second optical surface of the optical element, typically a fresnel surface. The light is controlled by the optical element. Optionally, a lens can be placed over each LED to control the light pattern of the LED. The lens has an entry face to direct the light to a total internal reflection surface on the side, which redirects the light to the exit face. The resulting signal is a uniform, efficient signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2003Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: Lumination LLCInventors: Patrick Martineau, Eden Dubuc

Patent number: 7234820Abstract: Various optical techniques are described for obtaining a specified light output from an LED source. One technique uses a parabolic reflector surrounding an LED or LED array to create a collimated beam, and the light exit opening of the parabolic reflector is defined by a reflective disc with an opening of the desired size. Any generated light that is outside of the opening is reflected back into the parabolic reflector and re-reflected until the light exits the opening. For mixing different light colors from different LEDs or energized phosphors, a mixing tunnel is used. The mixing tunnel includes angled dichroic mirrors or angled polarizer mirrors that selectively reflect and pass selected colors or polarizations of light to a single output port of the mixing tunnel. Efficient and compact ways to energize phosphors are also described. Other optical techniques are also described.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2005Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Assignee: Philips Lumileds Lighting Company, LLCInventors: Gerard Harbers, Laurie Scheffel, Matthijs Keuper, Robert H. Patent number: 7235792Abstract: A light source of coaxially stacked volumetric light cells that can be used either in a lamp or a display. Each light cell is composed of high quantum yield nanocrystals in a silica aerogel matrix that is excited by a controlled ultraviolet light source. From these stacked cell assemblies visible light is emitted of a desired color or color temperature and brightness.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2005Date of Patent: June 26, 2007Inventor: Carl Scott Elofson

Patent number: 7229202Abstract: The invention concerns an illumination apparatus for an optical observation device (10), in particular a stereomicroscope or a stereo surgical microscope. A multi-armed light guide with coupler (2) mixes colored light emitted by light-emitting diodes (1a–c) to yield white mixed light (15).Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 2004Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Assignee: Leica Microsystems (Schweiz) AGInventor: Ulrich Sander

Patent number: 7226190Abstract: A portable lighting lamp 10 comprises an emitting module equipped with at least one light-emitting diode 11 for emitting a light beam, a fixing and connecting element 12 of said diode, and an optical focussing device 15 able to be moved in front of the diode 11 to make the visualization angle of the light beam vary. The optical focussing device 15 is advantageously constituted by one or more Fresnel lenses 16 mounted on a swivelling support 17 or a rotary knob designed to occupy either an inactive position situated outside the light emission field of the diode or an active position wherein said light beam passes through the lens so as to obtain either broad lighting with a short range or narrow lighting with a long range.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2006Date of Patent: June 5, 2007Assignee: ZedelInventors: Paul Petzl, Alain Maurice
