  • Patent number: 9410674
Abstract: A lens for primarily forward distribution of light from a light emitter which has an emitter axis in a front-to-back centerplane. The lens has a base surface which is adjacent the emitter and forms a light-entrance opening, an inner surface which defines a light-receiving cavity and includes front and back regions extending from the light-entrance opening, and an outer surface which has front and back regions adjoined by a middle region. The back region includes a back portion configured for forward total internal reflection (TIR) of rearward light received from the inner surface. The back portion extends transverse to the front-to-back centerplane away from the base surface from positions which are closer to the base surface than the innermost cavity region and terminates with a distal end which is closer to the base surface than outermost positions of the front region.

  • Patent number: 9192022
Abstract: The invention relates to a control system (100) for an ambient light environment in a room in a hospital environment. The control system is configured to time and synchronize light effects of the ambient light environment (170, 190) in response to sensor signals (111-113) from patient location sensors (121) or other sensors (122,123) for detecting if a clinical instrument is activated, moved or taken into use or for detecting heart rate. Light effects may be used by the clinical personnel to improve quality and speed of the examination and to create a calming atmosphere for the patient. However, different light effects are required at different times and for different durations. Therefore, timing of the light effects relative to sensor signals may improve workflow and patient comfort.

  • Patent number: 9055622
Abstract: Disclosed examples of optical systems having a plurality of light sources with each source having a different spectral outputs may be calibrated by measuring a spectral characteristic of the combined light with two measurements, e.g., one from a colorimeter and one from a sensor included in the system. Accordingly, one can determine a transform function in response to the two measures that models a feedback response of the optical system for each of a plurality of the inputs that would cause the optical system to generate radiant energy within a predetermined range of a spectrum. In order to calibrate the optical system, the transform function is programmed in the optical system to enable the optical system to transform an input to the optical system to a plurality of unique control signals each for controlling a respective light source of the plurality of light sources.

Abstract: Systems and methods permit use of efficient solid state emitters for broad spectrum continuous spectrum lighting defined by illumination data. The illumination data, which can be sold as a commercial product, can be recorded or authored and include spectral, temporal, and spatial information. Intensities of individual emitters such as LEDs can be controlled through a combination of pulse width modulation (PWM) and amplitude modulation (AM) of drive currents. The combination of PWM and AM permits fine tuning of the spectrum of emissions and creation of free space optical data channels.
