Publication number: 20080117646Abstract: Whereas incandescent light bulbs and other similar light sources known in the related art emit light in all directions, LED lamps can emit light in a single direction, and this is manifested in the problem of being unable to achieve light distribution characteristics satisfied by conventional headlamp designs. In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosed subject matter, an LED lamp for a light source of a headlamp can include an LED chip in the vicinity of the focus of a projection means and a shielding member covering a portion of the LED chip in a formation allowing a light distribution characteristic suitable for a vehicle front-illumination light to be obtained when light from the LED chip is magnified and projected in an illumination direction by a projection lens or the like constituting the projection means. Accordingly, accurate light distribution characteristics can be obtained in a simple manner by projecting in the illumination direction using the projection lens.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 24, 2007Publication date: May 22, 2008Inventors: YASUSHI YATSUDA, Takashi Ebisutani, Teruo Koike, Takuya Kushimoto, Ryotaro Owada, Masafumi Ohno, Takashi Futami

Patent number: 7213936Abstract: A structure of direct type backlight module with high uniform emitting light explores a design of lenticular lens of diffusing plate. The lenticular lens is against the central location of light source, where the light of lamp is scattered and the curvature of said lenticular lens far away light source is enlarged, then to reduce the scatter effect and achieve uniformity. The other lenticular lens also can be designed for light location and distance. Each lenticular lens is against light location, and incident light can be reflected through the angle of microstructure surface at the entrance facet, but farther location can be resulted in total refraction due to large inclined angle, and diminishing the transmission light of light source then influencing the uniformity, finally reducing total reflection of wide angle.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2005Date of Patent: May 8, 2007Assignee: Entire Technology Co., Ltd.Inventors: Jyh Horng Wang, Jen-Huai Chang, Kai-Hsin Li

Patent number: 6398389Abstract: In an SLM-type display system, a solid state light source can be used to augment a lamp light source in a least two different ways. First, a solid state source can be used to augment deficiencies in a particular spectral region. Typically, lamps are deficient in red, and a red solid state source would be used. However, the same concept applies to augmenting any color region. Multiple solid state sources could be used to augment more than one region. Second, when the SLM system uses a color wheel, a solid state source can be used to eliminate “spoke loss”. Multiple solid state sources can be used for providing different colors during the spokes.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2000Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Christopher L. Patent number: 6364505Abstract: An x-ray illuminator achieves uniform illumination intensity across the front glass diffuser screen. The reflectance of the reflector is varied over its surface, the transmissivity of the screen can be varied over its extent, or both. The internal reflector can have a reflectance that is reduced at positions directly behind centers of the fluorescent tubes and which gradually increases to maximum reflectance at positions at ends of the tubes and at positions away from centerlines of the tubes.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2000Date of Patent: April 2, 2002Assignee: S & S X-Ray Products, Inc.Inventor: Norman A. Patent number: 6059436Abstract: A vehicle lamp includes a lamp chamber formed by covering the front opening of a lamp body with an outer lens in order to mount a reflector carrying a bulb of a vehicle lamp as a primary vehicle lamp in the lamp chamber, and an extension disposed on the periphery of the opening of the reflector mounted in the lamp chamber. The extension is fixed to the lamp body or the outer lens, and the reflector of a vehicle lamp as an auxiliary vehicle lamp and an inner lens for covering the opening of the reflector therewith are fixed to the extension.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1998Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kazuya Hashigaya

Patent number: 5954424Abstract: An illumination system (10,30,100,130,150,180,200) for hard copy applications including an elongated array (32) of light emitting elements (34) in combination with a light mixing element (42,46) for mixing the light from the individual elements in the lateral or cross-process direction. A curved array (32) or linear array (102) of light emitting elements with an aspheric lens (108) may be utilized, with a cylindrical lens (36,106) compressing the beam of light in the vertical or process direction. The light mixing elements (42,46) are preferably comprised of holographic diffusers. Sufficient mixing of the light from the array is achieved in the cross-process direction whereby a reduction in light output of one light emitting element does not generate a significant localized reduction in intensity at the elongated spatial light modulator.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1996Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Charles H. Patent number: 5951150Abstract: A display system includes a plurality of color filters disposed between a plurality of light sources and a display panel. A first light source is energizeable to transmit light through a first color filter to illuminate the display panel with a first color (red). A second light source is energizeable to transmit light through a second color filter to illuminate the display panel with a second color (green). The first and second light sources are simultaneously energizeable to transmit light through both of the color filters to illuminate the display panel with a third color (yellow). The display panel includes inner and outer layers containing light absorbing pigment and light scattering particulate. The outer layer of the panel contains a greater quantity of pigment than the inner layer. The inner layer of the panel contains a greater quantity of light scattering particulate than the outer layer. The inner and outer layers of the panel have the same optical density.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1997Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventor: Robert Patrick Helstern

Patent number: 5893626Abstract: The present invention provides a safety light having a easily recognizable and colorful rotating illumination pattern. The safety light consists of a housing containing at least one group of secondary lighting elements arranged substantially around a primary lighting element. The lighting elements are covered by a translucent face having a central portion overlying the primary lighting element and a group of colored elements overlying each group of secondary lighting elements. Circuit means power the lighting elements such that the secondary lighting elements are illuminated in a rotating sequence, producing a distinct light pattern. The safety light is suitable for use in a wide variety of applications, including vehicles and recreational and service activities.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1993Date of Patent: April 13, 1999Inventor: Thurman Quentin Poling
