Patent number: 8764238Abstract: LED “Chip-on-Board” (COB) metal core printed circuit board (PCB) technology operates in conjunction with high efficiency compact imaging and non-imaging optics to provide a compact emergency light offering high performance luminance levels (higher brightness) and enhanced life, at low cost. Thermal impedance between the LED junction and the heat sink is significantly reduced for COB technology by placing the LED die directly on a high thermal conductivity material substrate thereby increasing temperature dependant life and thermally dependant output power. Additionally, there is no encapsulant or domed optic over the LED thus making it possible to get a much more compact and efficient substantially Etendue preserving collection optic directly over the die.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2009Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Innovations in Optics, Inc.Inventor: Thomas John Brukilacchio

Publication number: 20130010474Abstract: A shutter includes micro-optics having first and second concentrator arrays. A transducer laterally displaces one of the first and second concentrator arrays between transmissive and shuttered modes. In the transmissive mode, the arrays of concentrators are optically aligned to permit electromagnetic energy passing through the first array of concentrators to pass through the second array of concentrators. In the shuttered mode, the electromagnetic radiation is blocked from passing through the second array of concentrators. The concentrators may be compound parabolic concentrators, or lenslets positioned on opposing plates with pinholes printed therethrough. The shutter may increase f-number of radiation passing therethrough, and may be used in a limited f-cone radiation source with shuttering abilities, for example reducing f-cone of radiation output from the radiation source.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2012Publication date: January 10, 2013Inventor: Andrew Bodkin

Patent number: 7819548Abstract: A safety sleeve apparatus comprises a safety sleeve encapsulating a fluorescent tube for protecting the fluorescent tube from physical damage and for preventing the tube from sliding out of the sleeve and breaking if the sleeve is tilted from the horizontal during installation of the tube into a pair of lamp sockets. The sleeve protects the tube from damage if the sleeve is struck by a hard object, and creates an airspace around the tube to protect the tube from cold and prevent the escape of fragments from a broken tube. The sleeve has a greater inside diameter than the outside diameter of the tube. An end cap is mounted on each end of the sleeve, and the end cap includes a cylindrical ring extending upright from the edges of a flat end wall. Projections are included in the cylindrical ring and the projections attach to the slots in the ends of the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2005Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Light Lines, Inc.Inventors: Robert Schultz, Anthony Kasmar

Patent number: 6759797Abstract: This invention concerns a compact fluorescent lamp with a double helix shaped discharge tube in which the two strands of the helix are constituted by two helix shaped tube portions. These tube portions define a central axis of the discharge tube. The double helix formed by the discharge tube has a central section and a first end section. These sections are defined along the central axis, and the lamp base for receiving ends of the tube portions is disposed at the first end section. An inner diameter of the central section of the helix is larger than an inner diameter of the first end section. The invention further relates to a method and apparatus for manufacturing coiled shaped discharge tubes, in particular the above described discharge tube of the discharge lamp. Patent number: 6309249Abstract: A faceplate light socket assembly for a light bank of the type used above vanity cabinets. The faceplate socket maintains a light bulb in substantially horizontal orientation perpendicular to the wall to which the light assembly is mounted. A pre-wired socket includes a spring clip which detachably retains the socket within a specially configured aperture of the faceplate. The aperture has an insertion slot to facilitate insertion of the spring within the aperture, a helical edge which gradually reduces the diameter of the aperture and a retaining notch to lock the socket in position. The helical edge biasingly compresses the spring clip upon rotation of the socket to maintain the socket within the aperture. An outer cylindrical surface of the socket is threaded for attaching a decorative sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Zenith Products Corp.Inventors: Kaveh Didehvar, William G Carõn

Patent number: 5468142Abstract: A dimmer device for a gas light which is solar activated and is composed of a minimum number of parts. A magnetically operated valve with a magnetically attractable ball is energized during daylight hours to close off one passageway yet allows gas to flow through a second passageway at a lower flow rate to provide a dimmer condition for the lamp. At night time, the magnetic valve is deactivated causing the magnetically attractable ball to open the otherwise closed passageway and thereby allow full gas flow to the lamp. The dimmer device is easily installed into the lamp housing rather than the post.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1994Date of Patent: November 21, 1995Assignee: Modern Home Products Corp.Inventor: Walter Koziol

Patent number: 5274609Abstract: A glass globe for the purpose of preventing insects from blocking out the source of light in a portable lantern has two prearranged doors. The doors cover approximately 30 to 40% of the surface area of the globe and are made of a fire resistant material with a light reflective surface. The doors open back to back from the same hinge area and are biased by springs circumscribing their hinge rod assemblies. The doors, when open, prevent the wind from blowing out the lantern flame and yet permit bugs and insects to enter to the inside area of the glass globe whereby they become burned and liquidated. The doors are mounted within a fire proof frame and made of a polished metal material so as to give light reflection and reduce the light loss from the light source. The glass globe is made of various sizes to replace the various size globes in the conventional commercial portable lanterns. The doors are mounted on a hinge rod and biased by helical springs circumscribing the rod.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1992Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Inventor: William T. Bradley

The plates are mounted in a sealed envelope filled with tritium gas, the radioactive decay of the tritium causing the phosphor to luminesce. The phosphor material and all but one of the edges of each light guide are overcoated with a reflective material, such as aluminum, to guide the generated light to a single edge of the light guide, which edge is adjacent the glass face plate. The phosphor is preferably a calcium sulfide-based material forming a continuous, binder-free layer on the transparent base member.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Quantex CorporationInventors: Peter K.
