  • Patent number: 8783887
Abstract: A color/color temperature tunable light emitting device comprises: an excitation source (LED) operable to generate light of a first wavelength range and a wavelength converting component comprising a phosphor material which is operable to convert at least a part of the light into light of a second wavelength range. Light emitted by the device comprises the combined light of the first and second wavelength ranges. The wavelength converting component has a wavelength converting property (phosphor material concentration per unit area) that varies spatially. The color of light generated by the source is tunable by relative movement of the wavelength converting component and excitation source such that the light of the first wavelength range is incident on a different part of the wavelength converting component and the generated light comprises different relative proportions of light of the first and second wavelength ranges.

Abstract: A novel structure of a backlight unit where color-scan backlight drive is performed and a color mixture problem can be reduced is proposed. In the backlight unit where color-scan backlight drive is performed, in order not to form a color mixture region by light from a light source, an optical system is provided between the light source and a diffuser sheet so that the light is isotropically spread. Specifically, the distribution of intensity of light in the minor-axis direction is narrowed by the optical system provided between the light source and the diffuser sheet. The distribution of intensity of light in the major-axis direction is made uniform by the optical system. Further, the spread of light from the light source in the minor-axis direction in which a color mixture region is formed is suppressed and luminance on a light-emitting surface in the major-axis direction is made uniform.

Abstract: In the production of a light emitting device, in which a plurality of light emitting element parts carrying LED elements are formed on a substrate, and the substrate is diced, generation of shaving dusts is suppressed at the time of the dicing, and breakage of the substrate during the production process can be prevented. In the process of forming a slit crossing a region for forming a light emitting element part in a metal substrate, a recess which serves as a resin reservoir can be formed so as to cross the slit. The slit can be filled with an insulating material, the recess can be filled with a resin, and they both can be cured. A light emitting element part can be formed in the region for forming the light emitting element part, the metal substrate can be cut into units comprising one or a plurality of the light emitting element parts, and can be mounted on a printed circuit board on which a pattern is formed.

The lens is disposed above the light-emitting unit and has bottom surface and a tapered top surface opposite to the bottom surface. The bottom surface is opposite right to the light-emitting surface. A gap exists between the bottom surface and the light-emitting surface. Therefore, beams emitted by the light-emitting unit are modulated by the lens to be mostly concentrated relatively in a specific radiation angle range and distributed more uniform within the specific radiation angle range, which is conducive to reduction of the glare degree of the light source module.
