  • Patent number: 8714784
Abstract: An LED lamp including a light guide/light pipe, and a method of reflecting light using same, are disclosed. The LED lamp includes a transparent light pipe enclosed in an envelope, where the light pipe has a lower section and an upper section. The lamp also includes an LED in a recess at a lower end of the lower section, and a reflector formed by an indentation in an upper end of the upper section. The lower section may be a compound parabolic concentrator, and the upper section may be a tapered cylinder. The lower section of the light pipe collects light emitted from the LED, the upper section of the light pipe directs the collected light onto the reflector, and the reflector reflects the directed light in a radial direction.

  • Patent number: 8459830
Abstract: A light output device includes first and second light sources, and a partly transparent mirror arranged between the light sources. The partly transparent mirror, during operation, receives substantially all light emitted by the first and second light sources, and reflects part of the light emitted by the first light source and transmits part of the light emitted by the second light source, and vice versa, such that the light from the first light source is superimposed onto the light from the second light source following reflection/transmission at the partly transparent mirror.

  • Patent number: 7922366
Abstract: A light source including a refraction body, a metal cup, a metal reflecting lampshade, an LED lamp body. Light emitted from the LED lamp body is reflected by the metal cup to be vertically incident into the refraction body so that the light is refracted by the refraction body; the refraction body is installed at a focus of the cambered tapered surface of the metal reflecting lampshade so that the light is reflected to have a predetermined reflected shape.

Abstract: A rear-beveled mirror has backlighting located near the beveled areas. The beveled areas, having the backlighting, may be located in at least two opposite sides of the mirror. The angle of the bevel may be adjusted so that the backlighting may pass through the bevel and focus on a subject standing at a typical distance away from the mirror. This typical distance may vary with the type of mirror that includes the backlighting. For example, a make-up mirror may focus the light for use from about 1-2 feet away from the mirror; and a bathroom vanity mirror may focus the light for use from about 2-4 feet away from the mirror.

  • Publication number: 20100220484
Abstract: In various embodiments, an illumination structure includes a discrete light source disposed proximate a bottom surface of a waveguide and below a depression in a top surface thereof. A top mirror may be disposed above the discrete light source to convert modes of light emitted from the discrete light source into trapped modes, thereby increasing the coupling efficiency of the illumination structure.

  • Publication number: 20100142221
Abstract: A light emitting diode contains a light emitting diode chip and a light directing structure disposed thereon. The light directing structure has a pair of connected hemi-ellipsoids and an interface interposed therebetween. Each hemi-ellipsoid comprises a bottom surface in a shape of an incomplete ellipse and an ellipsoidal surface connected to the bottom surface and the interface, wherein the largest vertical distance from the ellipsoidal surface to the bottom surface is longer than a height of the interface. The bottom surface has a major axis and a minor axis intersected to define a center, wherein the interface is connected to the minor axis.

  • Patent number: 7628513
Abstract: An LED lamp structure includes a housing, a support, an LED light source, a light source driving circuit board, a lens, and a cover. The housing has a horn-like shape with a converged end and a flared end, wherein the flared end is formed with an accommodation chamber; the converged end is arranged with a support, and the accommodation chamber receives an LED light source, a light source driving circuit board, and a lens; and the cover is engaged with the flared end of the housing. Given that the light source driving circuit board is located at the flared end of the housing with a larger space. As such, an improved cooling effect can be obtained and that the electronic components can be more durable and reliable. And the lens has a predetermined illuminating angle, so that a desirable illumination effect on the LED light source can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 7618157
Abstract: A lamp includes a linearly extending heat sink, blue-light-emitting LEDs mounted on the heat sink, and a light emitting cover mounted on the heat sink in line with the LEDs, a first portion of the cover opposite the LEDs including a phosphor that is excited by the LEDs to emit white light. The cover may be a tube with the LEDs outside the tube, a portion of the tube nearest the LEDs being transparent and receiving light from the LEDs. The tube may include reflectors that are attached to an exterior surface of the tube to hold the tube on the heat sink. Alternatively, the cover may enclose the LEDs on the heat sink, where a portion of the cover has an interior surface that reflects light from the LEDs to the first portion. The lamp may include electrical connections that allow for multiple lamps to be connected in series.
