  • Patent number: 10845042
Abstract: A portable lighting system for single-handed operation includes abase for supporting the portable lighting system, a light source positioned on the base, a traveler having a key member attached to a rotating shaft mechanism extending from the traveler, and a frame connected to the base and the traveler and enclosing the light source. The frame includes a plurality of flexible ribs attached to the base at a first end and to the traveler at a second end, a latch plate having a key opening for engaging the key member and spaced a distance from the traveler, and at least one guide track connected between the traveler and the latch plate. The traveler is movable along the guide member from a starting position toward the latch plate causing the flexible ribs to bend outwardly and the key member is configured to enter the key opening and rotate via the rotating shaft mechanism to lock the traveler from returning to the starting position on the guide track. This configures the lighting system for use.

  • Publication number: 20150070904
Abstract: Soft pneumatic actuators based on composites consisting of elastomers with embedded sheet or fiber structures (e.g., paper or fabric) that are flexible but not extensible are described. On pneumatic inflation, these actuators move anisotropically, based on the motions accessible by their composite structures. They are inexpensive, simple to fabricate, light in weight, and easy to actuate. This class of structure is versatile: the same principles of design lead to actuators that respond to pressurization with a wide range of motions (bending, extension, contraction, twisting, and others). Paper, when used to introduce anisotropy into elastomers, can be readily folded into three-dimensional structures following the principles of origami; these folded structures increase the stiffness and anisotropy of the elastomeric actuators, while keeping them light in weight.

  • Patent number: 8591076
Abstract: A white-light emitter is disclosed, in which light from blue light-emitting diodes strikes an active area of a phosphor sheet. The active area absorbs a portion of the blue light and emits phosphor light in response to the absorbed blue light. The emitter includes a stretcher that controllably stretches the active area of the phosphor sheet. The white light output spectrum of the active area has a characteristic color temperature that increases as the phosphor sheet is stretched, and decreases as the phosphor sheet contracts. As the phosphor sheet is stretched, the thickness of the active area decreases, the received blue light encounters fewer phosphor particles within the active area, the absorbed portion of the blue light decreases, the emitted phosphor light decreases, and the active area has a white light output spectrum that becomes weighted more heavily toward the blue light and less heavily toward the phosphor light.

  • Patent number: 8534880
Abstract: A light emitting diode (LED) lighting system and method is inherently configurable into a variety of new and retrofit lamp applications. This reduces fixture costs by incorporating the heat removal method, light guide system, and a chassis into one easy to assemble and install structure. It also allows for configuration of a lighting system for determining overall height, overall inner and outer radii, light directivity, lighting intensity, and thermal performance. In retrofit applications, the lighting system can be configured to minimize installation costs. In a preferred embodiment, a LED lighting system is comprised of sub assemblies of LED circuit strips or arrays conjoined to create a multifaceted structure. Each sub-assembly has LEDs mounted on a circuit substrate with conductors to electrically connect the LEDs. These circuits are thermally interfaced and attached to thermally conductive material selected, treated, or processed to obtain desired light reflecting properties.

  • Patent number: 7357551
Abstract: An image display device with microlight and soft light panel includes light sources and a transparent panel. The said light sources are inlayed in the grooves of the edges of the said panel. The said images to be displayed are mounted on the surface of the panel or formed by the concave-convex parts inside or outside the surface. With the illumination of the micro power light sources, the device gives a soft light indirectly through the reflection or refraction of the light and can be used for long continued illumination indoors or outdoors or in dark conditions. The images that the device gives look clear and have strong stereo feelings and various changes. The device has lower costs and longer life and can be particularly used as safe and fire-fighting image signs in dark places such as cinemas, underpasses etc. Also it can be used for illumination.

  • Patent number: 7281825
Abstract: A retractable dimmer sleeve comprises sleeve material formed into an elongated enclosed passage having an open end and an interior volume for receiving an elongated light source. The dimmer sleeve enables, during operation of a light source while received within the sleeve, adjustment of a length of a selected portion of the light source that is occluded by the dimmer sleeve so that only a fraction of light emitted by the light source escapes the dimmer sleeve. The apparatus may further comprise an elongated light source at least partially enclosed by the dimmer sleeve. A method comprises: enclosing at least a portion of the light source with the retractable dimmer sleeve; and moving, during operation of the light source while received within the sleeve, an end of the dimmer sleeve along the light source, thereby adjusting a length of the light source that is occluded by the dimmer sleeve.

Abstract: Apparatus used with a screen, an inner wall and a standard utility light fixture. The shell is made from a material that is flexible, acting as a shock absorber in the event the apparatus is dropped or strikes a hard surface. The shell is separated from the inner wall, except at contact points, to permit the passage of air thereby dissipating heat, has a hook extending therefrom to use to suspend the apparatus, a plurality of extensions that are shaped to form hinges to engage the screen and an eyelet to receive a latch on said screen. The screen permits light to pass through, and has a latch protruding therefrom. The inner wall being sized and shaped to house a standard light bulb, having a bottom, formed to securely engage said light fixture, and a plurality of contact points for securing the inner wall to the shell.

Abstract: A zoom lens system includes a motor driven lens assembly that is movable on a track in a normal movement range for adjusting the light beam range angle of a luminaire. A pair or doors are pivoted to opposite sides of the frame of the lens assembly and are normally biased to an inactive position where the doors are parallel to and outside of the light path in the luminaire. The doors hold optical media such as diffuser gels. The lens assembly can be moved beyond the normal movement range to an actuation position where projections on the doors engage actuation abutments adjacent the track to move the doors to an active position overlying the lens with the optical media in the light path. A latch holds the door in the active position. The lens assembly can be moved beyond the actuation position to a deactivation position where a deactivation abutment releases the latch freeing the doors to return to the inactive positions.
