  • Patent number: 7703950
Abstract: A side-emitting lens for use with an LED lamp provides a distribution of emitted light that is substantially normal to an axis of symmetry of the lens; the light can also be symmetrical with respect to a plane normal to the lens axis. The lens has a cavity in which the LED lamp can reside, having a cavity refracting surface with a central section and a stepped cavity sidewall. The lens also has a base external refracting surface surrounding the cavity, an internal reflecting surface spaced apart from the cavity, and a side surface; these surfaces redirect light that enters the lens through the cavity refracting surface. For many applications, the lens axis is vertical in service and the lens is configured to provide a narrow distribution of light in the horizontal plane.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a light source package structure, which comprises: an accommodating space for accommodating a light source, a first refraction surface, and at least a second refraction surface. The first refraction surface receives light discharging from the light source while refracting the same to form a first refracting light, the upper part of the first refraction surface further comprising a refracting structure for refracting the light emitted from the light source. The second refraction surface receives and refracts the first refracting light to form a discharging light being emitted out of the light source package structure. Wherein, an included angle is formed between the normal vector of a portion of the second refraction surface and the central axis of the light source package structure. It is noted that the aforesaid package structure can be used in various packaging for improving refraction.

Abstract: An optic film includes a surface on which a plurality of densely distributed rib-like light guides is formed. Among the light guides, some are straight linear, while the others are of a continuous left-and-right wavy configuration. Thus, when light passes through the optic film and is converged thereby, the converged light is not completely in a regular distribution. In a backlight module using the optic film, light emitted from the backlight module does not cause diffraction and thus interference pattern is prevented from occurring.

The bottom surface has a plurality of diffusion elements (124) arranged thereat. Each diffusion element defines a diffraction grating unit (125) therein. Areas of the diffraction grating units progressively increase with increasing distance away from the light incidence surface. Diffractive capabilities of the diffraction grating units progressively increase with increasing distance away from the light incidence surface. These features improve the overall efficiency of utilization of light, and enable the light emitting surface to output highly uniform light.

The grating includes a working area comprising a periodic grating structure and a non-working area comprising a support structure for mating with an additional component of the optical device. The support structure supports the additional component in order to prevent strains from developing in the grating. The strains may come from physical stresses applied to the optical device during manufacturing or use or may come from changes in the temperature of the optical device. The support structure may operate by providing an element whose width to height ratio is greater than a width to height ratio of the elements in the grating structure. The support structure may also operate by being higher than the working area of the grating. Furthermore, the non-working area of the grating may include alignment marks used during the manufacturing of the optical device.
