Abstract: A headlight optical axis control unit of a vehicle capable of reducing cost, improving accuracy and ensuring safety is provided. An inclination angle detecting sensor placed in the front of a vehicle is connected to a control unit, and includes two transceivers of ultrasonic sensors. The two transceivers obtain the levels at their locations from the phase differences between the emitted waves and the reflected waves from a road surface, and measure the inclination angle from the level differences. The inclination angle is continuously detected during running of the vehicle. The measured values of the inclination angle are subjected to the cumulative sum and cumulative averaging. According to the average value, the control unit adjusts the angle of the optical axis of the headlights via headlight optical axis control sections.

Abstract: A vehicle light apparatus which serves to change a lighting range of a lamp L for illuminating a forward part of the vehicle corresponding to a steering angle of the vehicle comprises lighting range control means for turning the lighting range into an opposite direction to a current steering direction when steering is returned into a straight running direction. When a steering angular velocity is greater than a predetermined value, a lighting range for illuminating an opposite side is increased following the return of the steering into the straight running direction. A next curve or the course of an intersection road can be illuminated prior to the steering operation in a running condition on an S-shaped road or an intersection road in which right and left turns continue. Thus, the vehicle light apparatus is very effective for maintaining the safe running of the vehicle on a curved road and an intersection road.

Abstract: According to a light axis adjusting apparatus for a vehicle headlamp, the inclined state (inclination angle &Dgr;&agr;) of a vehicle, when stopping, relative to a road surface is detected. The amount of change of the inclined state is computed based on the inclined state (inclination angle &Dgr;&agr;) of the vehicle. When this amount of change becomes a specified value or more, the amount of change is added to or subtracted from the current inclination angle &Dgr;&agr; to update the data. Based on a new inclination angle &Dgr;&agr; after updating, an actuator is driven to correct the inclination angle of the headlamp. Thus, the inclined state of the vehicle is detected with high accuracy, and the light axis of the headlamp can be adjusted appropriately.

One of the materials renders the material more light transmissive when activated with a current and a second of the materials renders the material less light transmissive when activated with a current.

Abstract: The present invention changes the headlight optical axis of a vehicle in relation to an inclination angle during normal control and to properly adjust the optical axis according to information including front information about a car ahead. The headlight optical axis is adjusted based on the inclination angle of a vehicle, road information in the direction of travel, presence of a car ahead, a distance between vehicles, and the center optical axis angle corrected according to changes in horizontal and vertical behavior of the car ahead.

Abstract: The lighting directions of a plurality of lamps RL and LL are controlled independently or integrally corresponding to a running condition. When a vehicle changes a running direction, the direction of the optical axis of one of the lamps is deflected earlier in the running direction and the direction of the optical axis of the other lamp is maintained in a straight running direction in a running condition in which other cars or obstacles might be present in the straight running direction of the vehicle, and the direction of the optical axis of the other lamp is deflected with a delay upon receipt of a further steering operation. It is possible to carry out an illumination in the running direction and the straight running direction of the vehicle. In particular, the invention is very effective for maintaining the safety running of the vehicle on an intersection road or at time of a lane change.

Abstract: A vehicle light apparatus comprises a controller 10 for changing a lighting range of a lamp L for illuminating a forward part of a vehicle corresponding to a steering angle of the vehicle and for controlling the lighting range of lighting means corresponding to a steering angular velocity of the vehicle. Alternatively, there is provided lighting range control means for changing a lighting range of lighting means for illuminating a forward part of the vehicle corresponding to a steering angle of the vehicle and for controlling the lighting range of the lighting means based on an operation of a turn signal lamp of the vehicle. It is possible to decide a running condition of the vehicle from the steering angular velocity or the operation state of the turning signal lamp and a vehicle speed, thereby rapidly controlling a change in the lighting direction or the lighting area of the lamp L in a running direction.

Abstract: A switch assembly module for controlling operation of a vehicle lamp includes a photocell integrated within the module housing to allow a controller to automatically switch the lamp on or off depending on detected ambient level. A manual switch is provided on a faceplate of the housing to allow disabling of the automatic operation feature. A manual switch can also be provided to allow variable dimming of the lamp. Integration of the photocell into the switch assembly module eliminates the need for separate instrument panel wiring to the photocell, while reducing wiring harness complexity by allowing the same harness and connector to be used with a module not having the photocell integrated therein.

Abstract: When the vehicle body rolls to the oncoming lane, a light source bulb is turned to a direction opposite to a rolling direction to keep the posture of the light source bulb in an erect state. A horizontal cut-off line forming area 20a1 of a reflector 20 is formed with a plurality of reflection elements 20s1a and 20s1b and the like. Those elements are formed extending from the upper end to the lower end and slanting, at an angle of 5°, downward to the optical axis Ax1 with respect to the vertical direction. As a result, when the vehicle body rolls to the oncoming lane side, the reflection elements 20s1a and 20s1b and the like are substantially orthogonal to a light-dark borderline L1 formed by an inner shade 18c of the light source bulb, to thereby sharpen the horizontal cut-off line.
