  • Patent number: 7232245
Abstract: A bezel member (52) to which a lens (54) which transmits light from a light source (37) is supported on a main body (30) to be fixed to a vehicle body (11). A spherical surface (52a) is formed on one of the main body (30) or a bezel member (52), and sliding members (34) for being pressed against the spherical surface (52a) are formed on the other one of them, so that the bezel member (52) can be rotated with respect to a supporting member (33) of the main body (30) and fixed to a given position. Since a metal plate is used as the sliding members (34) in this interior illumination lamp (10), a problem such that the light source cannot be fixed to the desired direction due to abrasion or change of properties of the felt sliding member as in the related art due to the temperature or deterioration with age can be solved. If rotating fins in the forward direction of the lenses, outer bezels are rotated together, so that a light emitting direction can be adjusted, not directly contacting the lenses with the fingers as conventionally. Even if the lenses are heated, the light emitting directions can be adjusted thereby. Not directly contacting the lenses by the fingers, the lenses are prevented from being stained to decrease illumination. In addition, since the fins avoid the light diffusion, a driver and other riding people are kept off dazzling by the light.

  • Patent number: 7029138
Abstract: An emergency trunk release handle for an automobile displays the graphics explaining the use and function of the handle by cutting out the material from the handle. Forming the emergency release handle from a phosphorescent plastic material that can be formed by a molding process, such as injection molding, the cut-out graphics show as darkened areas, when viewed in the dark confines of an automobile trunk, to provide a high degree of visibility for the graphics. The graphics are also visible when seen against the dark carpet in the interior of an opened trunk cavity. The formation of the graphics is accomplished by coring the mold in the configuration of the desired graphics and by forming the plastic material in the mold around the cores. The resultant handle structure is thus formed in a cost effective manner that reduces the process failure potential during the manufacturing of the handle.

Abstract: A lighting system for use in the interior cabin of a vehicle comprises a vehicle accessory comprising a non-incandescent solid-state light source. The non-incandescent solid-state light source provides illumination of less than about 10 lux at a target location within the interior cabin of the vehicle when the non-incandescent solid-state light source passes a current of less than about 100 mA whenever the battery/ignition electrical power system of the vehicle is switched on. Preferably, the non-incandescent solid-state light source comprises a light emitting diode. An electrical resistor may be connected in series with the light emitting diode. The target location illuminated by the light source may include at least one of a shift lever console, a floor console, or other locations within the vehicle interior cabin.

  • Publication number: 20040208013
Abstract: A light bar contains one or more rows of light-emitting diodes (LED's) in a housing which extends across substantially the entire width of a windshield of a vehicle and is narrow in width to minimize interference with visibility through the windshield. The housing has an interior forming a channel with a throat; the throat acting as a hood which directs the illumination out of the windshield and minimizes stray light. The LED's are arranged in banks generally symmetrically arrayed about the center of the length of the housing. Two of the banks, preferably equidistant from the center, are tilted in opposite directions to each other so as to project light toward the right side and left side of the vehicle. The LED's may be illuminated continuously or in selected sequence, as established by the user with a switch on the housing. Attached to the housing in a separate compartment is another bank of LED's which may direct light inside the vehicle for use as a dome or map light.

  • Patent number: 6805455
Abstract: A wireless remote controlled mirror having lights to illuminate a subject being viewed in the mirror, while enabling a user to selectively adjust a view of the subject from a remote location. When attached to a rear seat of a vehicle, the mirror can be remotely adjusted to view a child in a rear-facing safety seat. The mirror includes a base adapted to mount to an object, a reflective lens that moves relative to the base, one or more electric motors to drive the reflective lens, and a receiver that detects a command signal from a wireless remote controller and energizes a motor to reorient the reflective lens to view the child. A plurality of light sources are selectively energized to emit light toward the subject, so that the mirror is usable after dark. The mirror can alternatively be mounted on other portions of a vehicle.
