An actuator for the floodlight includes a base unit in the vehicle and a remote transmitter wherein the base unit is responsive to a signal from the remote transmitter in order to actuate the floodlight. The actuator may further include a lockout device in order to prevent actuation of the floodlight during operation of the vehicle. A signal light is additionally included in the exterior mirror housing in order to project a second pattern of light from the mirror housing extending laterally away from the vehicle and rearwardly of the vehicle.

Abstract: A device (10) for attaching a light to a trailer hitch frame (172). The device (10) is comprised of a lamp assembly (12) that attaches to an adjustable lamp attachment assembly (40) which allows the lamp assembly (12) to be adjusted radially and in elevation. The lamp assembly (12) is attached to a trailer hitch frame attachment bracket (64) that is dimensioned to fit over a trailer hitch frame (172) that can range in size from 1.25 square inches to 4.0 square inches (3.2 to 10.2 cm). The frame attachment bracket (64) is attached to the trailer hitch frame (172) by means of two nylon tie wraps (136,144). The tie wraps, which are secured to the bracket (64), are wrapped around the trailer hitch frame (172) and are locked in place. After the bracket (64) is secured to the trailer hitch frame (172), the device (10) is connected to the vehicle electrical circuit that controls the vehicle rear lights.

Abstract: A mirror assembly security system for a vehicle includes an exterior mirror assembly and a light module removably positioned within the exterior mirror housing. The light module is moisture impervious and includes an enclosure, a light-transmitting opening in the enclosure facing generally downwardly and/or rearwardly of the vehicle, a cover for the light-transmitting opening, and a light source in the enclosure radiating light through the light-transmitting opening. The light source may be received in a socket which removably engages another opening in the enclosure. In this manner, the light source may be replaced by removing the module from the exterior mirror housing, removing the socket from the enclosure and replacing the light source. The enclosure and mirror housing preferably are configured to self-retain the module in the exterior mirror moving with no, or fewer than one or two, separate fasteners.

  • Patent number: 5845990
Abstract: A device for an automotive vehicle to signal braking, deceleration, turning of the vehicle or an emergency situation. The device has two bodies facing rearwardly, mounted near the top of the back or the highest point of the vehicle adjacent the sides of the vehicle. Each body has a base and a cover with translucent lenses. Light sources and reflectors are disposed on the base for illuminating the lenses to create the signaling as required. Lighting one or more lenses in the cover indicate braking while lighting an arrow shaped lens in the cover and a side lens facing out from the vehicle indicate intended turning. The light transmitted through the lenses in the cover is directed downwardly either by a downward tilt to the cover or by directional configurations formed on the lenses. The lenses signifying braking are formed from red material while the arrow shaped and side lenses signifying turning are formed from red or yellow material.

Abstract: A system is provided for rapidly attaching and removing turn indicators from a motorcycle so that the cycle can be used either off-road or on highway. A base unit is permanently attached to the motorcycle in locations where turn indicators are normally placed. The base unit and the lamp unit cooperate to both connect the units structurally and electrically by employing a heel and shoe configuration. The heel of the base slides into a shoe, where mating electrical connections are made. The heel is then releasably locked into the shoe. Alternatively, the base unit has an inserting member, containing an electrical connector at its end opposite the attachment to the motorcycle. The inserting member is sized to fit into a receiving member of a separate lamp unit wherein the receiving member is located distally from an electric lamp of a stalked turn indicator.
