Abstract: A surface emitting device is provided. The surface emitting device includes a light guide and a light source. The light guide includes a circular portion that curves light, and a light entrance portion that protrudes from the outer peripheral surface of the circular portion. The light source emits light toward the light entrance portion. The light source is disposed in a hollow formed in the center of the light entrance portion. The outer wall surface of the light entrance portion has a reflecting portion. The reflecting portion includes first and second reflecting surfaces that adjoin at an obtuse angle. Light of the light source heading from the inner wall surface to the outer wall surface of the light entrance portion is reflected by the reflecting portion so as to head into the circular portion.

Abstract: In a touch panel assembly, the thickness of a touch panel is successfully reduced by using a touch panel 10 provided with no reinforcement member. A housing frame 50 that supports the components of a front light unit 20 in an integral manner is provided with a touch panel positioning mechanism, and the touch panel 10 is fixed to the positioning mechanism, whereby the absence of a reinforcement member is duly compensated for, thus ensuring the strength of the touch panel 10. Deformation of the touch panel 10 that occurs when the touch panel 10 is pressed for operation can be attenuated by a transparent buffer member 5 disposed between the touch panel 10 and a light conductor plate 22. Therefore, the touch panel 10 deformed is prohibited from contacting and damaging the light conductor plate 22, thus preventing the light conductor plate 22 from deteriorating in its functional performance.

Abstract: A light-emitting device is disclosed which allows efficient irradiation of light from a plurality of light sources to achieve a predetermined light emission characteristic and has a small size. The light-emitting device has an optical member which includes a first reflecting surface which reflects light incident thereon from a first light source, a second reflecting surface which reflects light incident thereon from a second light source, and an emergence portion which causes the light from the first reflecting surface and the light form the second reflecting surface to emerge therefrom. The optical member reflects the light by the second reflecting surface and then transmits the light through the first reflecting surface to guide the light to the emergence portion.

Abstract: The backlighting device (1) enables an information display element of a portable object such as a wristwatch to be illuminated from the back. This device comprises a light guide plate (7) having a front face and a rear face, a light reflector (6) located on the rear face of the light guide plate, a light diffuser film (9) and a rectifier film (11) located on the front face of the light guide plate and a source of visible light (2). This light source, such as a light emitting diode (2), feeds light beams to the edge of the light guide plate, which spread in the light guide plate between its two faces. A layer, such as a diffuser film, has a zone (10?) with opacity decreasing from a limit (25) located close to the boundary area of the light guide plate, which receives the light beams of the light source, in order to attenuate the intensity of the light crossing said zone.

Abstract: A light guide 11 of a rectangular cross-section has side faces 11a, 11b including short sides in the longitudinal direction of which one side face 11a is provided with a light-scattering pattern 20, formed by screen-printing in white paint, for scattering the light incident to the light guide 11. The other side face 11b facing the side face 11a is exposed from a casing 12 to serve as a light-emitting surface. In the present embodiment, it is possible to secure a sufficient amount of light because the whole area of the side face is used as the light-emitting surface. The remaining side faces 11c, 11d of the light guide 11 are side faces including the long sides. Since the side faces 11c, 11d easily produce a surface sink during molding, neither the light-scattering pattern 20 nor the light-emitting surface is provided thereon.
