The shock absorbing elements enable the electronics module to move relative the annular disc body when the flying disc assembly experiences a rapid change in velocity. The range of movement is limited to prevent permanent deformation of the shock absorbing elements. The solar cells absorb sunlight, and turn the sunlight into electrical energy which is used to charge the solar batteries housed in the center post. The solar batteries power the lights located on the solar panels.

Pressing the ON/OFF switch a first time activates the lights and starts the timer. Pressing the ON/OFF switch a second time while the timer is still activated will deactivate the lights. If the predetermined time elapses and the ON/OFF switch is not pressed a second time, the lights will deactivate automatically. The lighting strip is covered in a PVC protective coating and encased in a fabric encasement to match the interior of the container. The fabric encasement is stitched or otherwise fixedly attached to the interior of the container adjacent to the top opening of the container.
