Abstract: An earthquake detection device with an innovative mechanism capable of sensing vibrations. The device is an open electrical circuit that, when triggered by sufficient vibration, becomes a closed circuit, thus enabling a variety of electrical appliances. The inner mechanism of the present invention works much like a conventional pulley. A weighted object, when agitated by sufficient vibration, causes a balance beam to fall out of a delicate equilibrium, thereby causing a hammer to fall on two receptacles which carry the electrical circuit, thus closing the circuit and enabling the electrical appliances.

  • Patent number: 5707129
Abstract: A headlamp for vehicular use including a rotatable shade composed of a right shade and a left shade and which constitutes a clear-cut line vertically moving adjusting device for vertically moving and adjusting a clear-cut line of a low beam produced by the headlamp, a curved road detecting device for detecting a condition of a curved road in front of the vehicle, and a main optical axis lateral direction tilting adjusting device. The rotatable shade is rotated by a predetermined amount in accordance with the information of a curved road detected by the steering sensor so that the clear-cut line is vertically moved and adjusted. Further, the reflector (and the bulb mounted thereon) is laterally slid by a predetermined amount so that the light distribution pattern and the "hot zone" are laterally moved and adjusted. Accordingly, the visibility, especially the visibility on the steering side, is improved when the vehicle travels on a curved road at either low or high speed.

  • Patent number: 5704707
Abstract: A helmet-mounted wireless frequency-modulated infrared beam-actuated auxiliary brakelight system capable of reliable operation in all ranges of ambient light while permitting the rider to turn his head from side to side over a large angle approaching 180 degrees or more. The system comprises a frequency-modulated infrared transmitter, in operative combination with a switch for detecting brake system actuation, and a helmet module, including a frequency-modulated infrared receiver and decoder in operative combination with a stop light. Brake system initiation results in switch actuation which causes the transmitter to emit a beam of frequency-modulated infrared energy towards the helmet module. When the beam is received at the helmet module, it is captured using a lens in operative combination with a novel lightpipe which ensures reception over a 180 degree angle.

  • Patent number: 5667290
Abstract: High intensity light emitting diodes, visible even in daylight, provide observers with a distinct visual warning that a bicycle is in motion. This is accomplished using a magnet or series of magnets attached to one or both rotating wheels; said magnets being capable of actuating one or more reed switches. The reed switch contact is connected to an electronic circuit having power handling ability far beyond the capacity of the reed switch alone. Included in the circuit is a timing feature which limits the length of time the light emitting diodes are illuminated even if a magnet should maintain a reed switch continuously actuated. Major power drain occurs only during the flashing period of the light emitting diodes. Otherwise, power drain is of such low intensity that no shut off switch is needed; allowing the safety indicator to be active at all times. Both light intensity and flash duration are independent of a wheel's rotational speed or direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5585697
Abstract: A reflector lamp assembly having an integral photo-sensor and sensing circuit arrangement associated therewith provides for sensing the ambient light conditions at a point adjacent the top surface of the lamp envelope. The photo-sensor element is disposed within a sensor housing member mounted along an edge portion of the top surface of the lamp. A channel pathway is integrally formed with the sensor housing member and extends along the side lamp envelope to protect the sensor lead wires extending from the photo-sensor device to the sensing circuitry contained in the threaded screw base. The sensing circuitry is disposed vertically within a cavity formed in the bottom of the screw base so as to achieve optimum thermal dissipation properties for the sensing circuit. A collimator tube can be inserted into an opening formed at the top of the sensor housing member so as to control the field of view for sensing the ambient light conditions occurring near the top surface of the lamp assembly.

Abstract: A food covering system resembling a decorated cake includes a cover with receptacles for holding and providing power to illuminating decorations and/or moving decorations, including electronic candles. In response to a breath sensor sensing a predetermined level of air movement, power to the electronic candles is turned off and secondary illuminating decorations, such as letters arranged in a birthday message, are turned on. In addition to the secondary decorations, music or other sounds may be issued from a speaker embedded in the food cover. The secondary decorations and/or music may be turned on for a predetermined time. Alternatively, the secondary decorations and/or music are on with the electronic candles and remain on, after the candles are "blown out", for a predetermined time.

Abstract: An article of wearing apparel defines a curved mounting surface when worn and includes a decorative, illuminatable assembly affixed over the mounting surface. The decorative assembly includes a soft, flexible panel member having an upper surface, a lower surface, and a peripheral edge surface. The flexible panel member is sufficiently flexible to conform to the curvature of the mounting surface by hand pressure alone and is substantially comprised of a transparent or a translucent material. The flexible panel member defines a cavity in communication with the peripheral edge surface, which cavity is dimensioned and arranged to receive at least one light emitting element. The lower surface of the panel member causes a decorative pattern of refractive grooves dimensioned and arranged to reflect light propagating through the panel member in a plane disposed between its upper and lower surfaces.

Abstract: A motion sensor light apparatus comprises a lighting body, a mounting base for mounting the lighting body to a wall. The lighting body includes a decorative house for receiving a lamp bulb, and a light base extended downwardly from the bottom end of the decorative house as an integral part of the lighting body. The light base has a top rim, a conical base body extending coaxially and downwardly from the top rim and gradually reducing its diameter to define a conical shape, and a flat bottom end extending downwardly from the base body. The base body has an azimuthal aperture and installs therein a lens, a seat, and a motion sensor circuit board mounted on the seat. The seat has an azimuthal seat aperture superimposing to the aperture of the base body. The lens is adhered to the seat and positioned between the seat aperture and the aperture of the base body, and directs infra-red radiation from a human or vehicle object to an infra-red sensor of the motion sensor circuit board.
