  • Patent number: 7528588
Abstract: A switched-mode power supply (200, 300, 400) comprises a primary side, a secondary side and a transformer (103, 303, 403) therebetween. An output on the secondary side delivers an output voltage and an output current to a load. An output voltage control circuit (110, 113, 801) keeps the output voltage at a first level, corresponding to a first output current value. A circuit element (201, 301, 401) integrates over time a voltage obtained from the transformer (103, 303, 403) and produces a signal indicative of the integrated voltage, corresponding to a second output current value that is smaller than the first output current value. An output voltage modifier (113, 601, 801) responds to the signal by changing the output voltage from the first level to a second level.

  • Patent number: 7388353
Abstract: In discharging a smoothing capacitor connected to DC sides of first and second switching circuits, a DC-DC converter is first turned on to charge a battery for an auxiliary, thereby discharging the smoothing capacitor. Therefore, an electric charge of the smoothing capacitor can be effectively utilized to the maximum. When the voltage of the smoothing capacitor detected by a voltage detector is reduced to a predetermined value or less, and as a result the DC-DC converter is brought into an inoperable state, electric charge of the smoothing capacitor is consumed by at least one of a motor/generator and an LC filter connected to AC sides of the first and second switching circuits by driving at least one of the first and second switching circuits. Therefore, the smoothing capacitor can be completely discharged without need for a special discharging circuit.

  • Patent number: 7135835
Abstract: The invention is directed to the provision of a converter apparatus, an inverter apparatus, and a DC link voltage control method, wherein the upper limit value of the DC link voltage that rises due to regenerative energy occurring from a motor is set high, thereby increasing the regenerative energy to be stored in a DC link. The converter apparatus (10) comprises: a voltage detection part (11) for monitoring the DC link voltage occurring across the DC link (30); and a charge stopping part (12) for stopping charging a power storage part (C) when the detected value of the DC link voltage exceeds a predetermined upper limit voltage as the motor (3) is decelerated.

  • Patent number: 7016793
Abstract: An apparatus for anti-islanding protection of a distributed generation with respect to a feeder connected to an electrical grid is disclosed. The apparatus includes a sensor adapted to generate a voltage signal representative of an output voltage and/or a current signal representative of an output current at the distributed generation, and a controller responsive to the signals from the sensor. The controller is productive of a control signal directed to the distributed generation to drive an operating characteristic of the distributed generation out of a nominal range in response to the electrical grid being disconnected from the feeder.

  • Patent number: 6219623
Abstract: The invention in the simplest form is a method and apparatus for reliably protecting against island situations with one or multiple power sources connected to an electric distribution grid. The method and apparatus detects variations in the voltage and frequency of the grid. An observed change in grid voltage causes a change in output power that is sufficient to cause an even larger change in grid voltage when the utility AC power source is disconnected. An observed change in grid frequency causes a change in phase or reactive output power that is sufficient to cause an even larger change in grid frequency. If several shifts in voltage or frequency happen in the same direction, the response to the change is increased in an accelerating manner.

  • Patent number: 4077033
Abstract: The present invention consists of improved drive circuitry for a plasma display panel using low voltage switching devices to control charge storage diodes which in turn regulate high voltage currents. These circuits are implemented as clamp bus selection means coupled with high voltage selection pulse circuit means. Further improvements comprise means for grounding unselected clamp buses. In combination with a plasma display panel, other, prior art, drive circuits, the clamp bus selection means and the high voltage selection pulse circuit means, the invention includes special sustain drive circuits.
