Of Holder For Mixing Chamber Patents (Class 366/110)
  • Patent number: 8016218
Abstract: Disclosed is a linear shaker apparatus capable of effectively mixing a wide variety of large volume liquid samples that provides a near linear mixing motion so as to allow for the easy break up of solids suspended in the fluid sample. The longer shaking distances and slower operating speeds employed by the linear shaker described herein, which resembles the motion a scientist or lab technician might employ when shaking such a vial by hand, does not lend itself to the electromagnetic technique employed in various prior art shakers. The linear shaker described herein employs an electric motor and linkage that allows varying the speed and stroke of the mixing operation to accommodate different laboratory protocols.

Abstract: A machine used for maximizing the extraction of otherwise wasted material in diverse containers by shaking and vibrating the inverted containers consequently causing the material to flow to the caps of the containers for use. All the embodiments described use a motor to shake and/or vibrate the opening and the container so the contents flow to the cap. They are composed of an opening within a housing to allow for container insertion, a housing to elevate the opening and container off of a surface to allow movement, a holding assembly to keep the container in place during a cycle, a motor or motors, and the necessary components to energize and control the motor(s). With the exception of the vibration only embodiment (FIGS. 7-7G) which simply vibrates the container, the other embodiments (FIGS. 1-6H and FIGS. 8-12A) use the motor and cam assembly to shake and vibrate the opening and the container causing the remaining material in the container to flow to the cap. All the embodiments are described and shown.

Abstract: An automated analyzer for performing multiple diagnostic assays simultaneously includes multiple stations, or modules, in which discrete aspects of the assay are performed on fluid samples contained in reaction receptacles. The analyzer includes stations for automatically preparing a specimen sample, incubating the sample at prescribed temperatures for prescribed periods, preforming an analyte isolation procedure, and ascertaining the presence of a target analyte. An automated receptacle transporting system moves the reaction receptacles from one station to the next.

Abstract: In this invention we describe a shaking device that is used to shake, stir, mix, rotate or agitate samples in containers attached to the shaking device. The shaking device, herein referred to as the shaker, is used to mix the solid, liquid or gaseous components of the sample in the container. The shaker described in this invention has a flexible arm to which the containers containing samples are attached. Due to the flexibility of the arm, its shape can be changed such that the speed and type of sample shaking can be varied based on the shape of the arm and based on where on the arm a sample container is attached. In this manner, orbital, linear, circular and other two or three-dimensional shaking, mixing, agitation and stirring of the sample can be achieved. The present invention provides an easy new method for shaking samples in containers of different shapes and volumes, at different speeds and in different orientations in space.

  • Patent number: 6508582
Abstract: An electromagnetic vibratory microplate shaker is disclosed of simplified design and improved mixing capability over previously known microplate shaker devices, comprising an electromagnetic drive assembly mounted within a rigid base and operatively connected to a microplate support tray. The support tray is in turn supported from below by a plurality of leaf springs which are tilted approximately 20° from vertical. During operation, an electromagnet is rapidly energized and de-energized causing an armature of the drive assembly to be pulled in and released up to 7,200 times per minute, in turn imparting a reciprocating vibration to the support platform and the microplates held thereon.

Abstract: A plastic container and lid assembly for storing liquid coating materials including a container and a lid. The container has a body with a bottom wall, at least four sidewalls and a neck. The neck defines a wide mouth opening and including threads for receiving mating threads on the lid. The lid also has a plurality of lugs, preferably two lugs, extending radially from the lid and terminating at or before the lugs extend beyond the container sidewalls when the lid is in sealed engagement with the container. The body also has an integral handle for lifting the container and the container neck supports a bail-type handle also for lifting said container. The integral handle and bail-type handles do not extend beyond the container sidewall. The container and lid assembly having an effective packing footprint and an effective packing volume which substantially conforms to the effective packing footprint and the effective packing volume of a conventional metal paint can.

  • Publication number: 20020110046
Abstract: An electromechanical apparatus and method are disclosed for agitating and conditioning fluids such as paint, polish, dyes, and the like in containers. An electrical motor generates a rotational driving force, which is reduced by a pulley system and applied to a cam drive shaft. The cam drive shaft rotationally drives a drive cam, which contains an offset drive dog. The drive cam mechanically engages and cooperates with a drive block via the drive dog to convert the rotational driving motion to a driving motion having rotational and reciprocal components. This driving motion is applied to a drive shaft, which in turn is coupled to a holder for a fluid container. The driving motion induces a vortex-like action in a fluid contained in the container thereby agitating and conditioning the fluid.

  • Patent number: 6350493
Abstract: A method of dispersing fibers in an electromagnetic-attenuating coating and applying the coating to a substrate. The method includes mixing a coating material of fibers and resin in a container such that the fibers are uniformly dispersed in the resin without breaking the fibers. The method also includes feeding the coating material from the container while maintaining the fibers uniformly dispersed in the resin and without breaking the fibers. In addition, the method includes applying the coating material to a substrate. The mixing is carried out by subjecting the container to an oscillatory shaking action, the feeding step is carried out by pressurizing the container and ejecting the coating material through a bottom opening in the container and the applying step is carried out by spraying the coating material on the substrate with an air-nozzle spray gun.

  • Patent number: 6165778
Abstract: A device and method for efficiently synthesizing diverse molecular products on substrates. A parent vessel 200 contains a suspension of substrates. The suspension is pressurized with argon and transferred to a plurality of reaction vessels 201-209 in one or more reaction vessel banks where monomer addition reactions take place. Optionally, the substrates may be tagged with a tag monomer. A vortexing motor 300 vortexes the contents of reaction vessels 201-209 during monomer addition reactions to enhance synthesis. After the desired monomer and/or tag monomer addition reaction, the suspension is pressurized with argon and transferred back to parent vessel 200 for mixing. Thereafter, the suspension may be pressurized with argon and reallocated among reaction vessels 201-209 for further synthesis.
