Patent number: 8876367Abstract: An apparatus and method for use in the biopharmaceutical and chemical industries to facilitate the temporary attachment of standard laboratory glassware to vibratory mixers and other types of aggressive shaking equipment. The container holder couples the entire flask or container to the mixing equipment in a secure fashion. The technology may be used with conventional glass flasks, or with plastic flasks that can be configured for either single-use or multiple-use. The invention allows for single handed, low force insertion of the flaskware as well as the incorporation of sensors into the container holder.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2010Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Inventors: Harold W. Publication number: 20100149907Abstract: A simple, robust and low-cost torsionally flexible, sealed drive that allows external drives to provide agitation within a container. A torsionally flexible tube is sealed to a torsionally rigid portion of a container. A second end of the tube is sealed to a driven element within the container. The driven element is coupled to a drive-shaft that is partly contained within the tube. Motion of the protruding end of the drive shaft imparts a corresponding motion to the driven element, while maintaining a water-tight seal between container and drive-shaft. One useful motion is a rotary oscillation. A stepper motor may operate via such a drive to impart a rotary oscillation to an impellor in a bioreactor, or mixing container, suitable for agitating a cell culture in a nutrient medium or hydrating a powdered media in water. The drive is suited to use in disposable bioreactors and mixers.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2008Publication date: June 17, 2010Applicant: New Brunswick Scientific Compnay, IncInventors: Jeff Watkins, Simin Yao

Patent number: 7347837Abstract: An infusion pump has a base and a holder for a syringe extending along a longitudinal axis and having an axially shiftable plunger. The holder is pivotal on the base about a first axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the syringe. A first actuator connected between the base and the holder can oscillate the holder about the first axis relative to the base. A pusher is displaceable linearly on the base transversely of the first axis by a second actuator that can press this pusher against the plunger and thereby slide the plunger of the syringe and empty the syringe's contents. A controller is connected to the first and second actuators for moving the pusher out of engagement with the plunger during oscillation of the syringe and for operating the second actuator only when the first actuator is not oscillating the syringe to express the contents of the syringe.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2005Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Inventor: Graziano Azzolini

Patent number: 5626824Abstract: An autoclave (1) is provided with an internal table (1) upon which articles to be sterilised can be placed. The autoclave is provided with a mechanism (2, 3, 5) for shaking or vibrating the table, and thereby shaking or vibrating the liquid undergoing sterilization, resulting in a more even temperature distribution within the liquid, thereby reducing the length of time for sterilization and reducing the occurrence of flash evaporation of the culture medium. The shaking or vibration may, for example, be induced by a shaft (2) which passes sealingly through a wall of the autoclave or may be induced by a number of magnets (41) located on a ring (38) around the autoclave which magnetically attract associated magnets (35) on the table within the autoclave.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1995Date of Patent: May 6, 1997Assignee: Able CorporationInventors: Yoichi Ishikawa, Shuji Yokoo, Akira Mizoguchi

Patent number: 5088830Abstract: Arrangement for operating a multi-component mixing capsule, in particular for dental purposes, by means of a vibratory mixing device, to activate the capsule and to mix the contents of the capsule. The mixing capsule contains a mixing space and a chamber to receive a foil sachet containing a liquid component. The chamber is delimited by two walls, one of which can be moved towards the other to activate the capsule, that is to empty the foil sachet in the mixing space. This takes place according to the invention by means of a first striking body, which as a result of mixing vibration is accelerated against the chamber wall.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1989Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: Ernst MuhlbauerInventor: Ernst Muhlbauer

Patent number: 5078163Abstract: Apparatus for uniformly wetting and discharging ash. It is enclosed in a dust hood. It comprises an open top pan disposed at an angle of about 55.degree. degrees with respect to a floor, rotated at slow speed. An ash charge chute discharges ash into the pan. Fixed scraper means extend at right angles to the pan to scrape the bottom of the pan while water is sprayed onto the surface of the discharged ash so that the rotated ash is tumbled back to the bottom of the pan to effect uniform wetting of the tumbled particles as they are discharged downwardly from the top of the side of the pan.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1991Date of Patent: January 7, 1992Inventor: Carl A. Patent number: 4137835Abstract: An oscillatory food warmer simultaneously warms and mixes food while it remains within a sealed can. The warmer includes a housing having an inner wall which defines a chamber for storing water. A heating element is mounted in the housing whereby the temperature of the water may be controlled. A cover supported on the housing closes the top of the chamber. Supports on the cover hold a conventional sealed food container in the water. The sealed can is submerged in the water and supported between two rotatable discs, each frictionally engaging one end of the can. An electric motor rotates a crank shaft, and means are provided to translate rotational motion of the shaft to oscillatory motion in the discs. Quick release structure is provided to facilitate removal of the can from between the discs. A food warming method includes supporting the can substantially submerged in water, heating the water to a preselected temperature, and rotationally oscillating the can.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1977Date of Patent: February 6, 1979Inventor: Ross K. Patent number: 4074900Abstract: A capsule holder for a dental amalgamator which holds a capsule firmly for high speed amalgamation but which allows easy insertion and removal. The holder has a body with a spring containing cavity at one end capable of receiving a first end of a capsule when this is inserted at an angle to the axis of the recess, and at the other end of the body there is provided a pivotable retainer for the second end of the capsule. The retainer has a concave surface which in a first position of the retainer receives the second end of the capsule when the first end has been inserted into the cavity with little compression of the spring, and the retainer is pivotable in an over-center manner to move the capsule against the spring force and into a second position in which the capsule is held firmly between the spring and the retainer, the retainer being prevented from moving beyond this second position.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1977Date of Patent: February 21, 1978Assignee: Weatherford Oil Tool Company, Ltd.Inventor: Frederick H.
