Patent number: 5568975Abstract: A steady bearing on a mixer shaft in a vessel supported from the walls of the vessel by a plurality of pairs of parallel struts which are pivotably mounted at their ends in fixed parallel clevises, the inner clevises being included in a bearing support subassembly and the outer clevises being attached to the vessel wall. The struts and clevises define a plurality of supportive parallelogram structures. The steady bearing is free to slide axially along the mixer shaft. As the vessel expands or contracts in response to changes in internal pressure or temperature as required by process conditions, the shape of the parallelogram structures is free to change to lengthen or shorten the parallelogram diagonals, and in response the steady bearing moves to a new position along the shaft. Radial support of the bearing is maintained at all axial positions assumed by the bearing.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1996Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: General Signal CorporationInventors: Robert Blakley, Marlin Schutte

Patent number: 5447372Abstract: A basket is so disposed that a portion of the outer periphery thereof is faced to the inner peripheral wall on one side of the tank. The starting materials thrown from the hopper portion formed on the other side of the tank which is opposite to the above inner peripheral wall, are efficiently premixed by the secondary vanes that are rotating near the center of the tank under the basket. The grains of the blend are dispersed by the primary vanes that are rotating in the basket 20 and pass through the slits formed by numerous wires having a circular shape in cross section in the side wall of the basket.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1994Date of Patent: September 5, 1995Assignee: Araki Iron Works Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoshitaka Araki, Hideyuki Araki

Patent number: 5356214Abstract: The hoist disclosed provides four point pivotal connections of linkages enabling the hoist to raise and lower a rotating shaft in vertical translation while providing resistance to torsioned loads transmitted by the shaft. The hoist may be fitted with a hydraulic cylinder for raising or lowering a boom formed by the linkages. The hoist can be mounted to a structural portion of a building or mounted on a dolly having wheels for ease of movement on a floor. The hoist allows one person to safely mix the contents of large containers, such as 55 gallon drums on totes.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1993Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Assignee: Richard Styles & Associates, Inc.Inventor: Richard Styles

Patent number: 5282681Abstract: A portable agitator is provided for fluidizing contents of a tank car that has settled during shipment. The agitator includes a column that can extend into a tank car through a manway, a wedging assembly for holding the column in place in the tank between the manway and the bottom wall of the tank, and a pivotable impeller platform appended to a distal end of the column. A pair of impellers are mounted on opposite ends of the impeller platform and are operable to stir and fluidize the contents of the tank car.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1992Date of Patent: February 1, 1994Assignees: Cadence Environmental Energy, Inc., Ash Grove Cement CompanyInventor: Ralph A. Patent number: 5267789Abstract: A device for mixing liquids, solids or combinations thereof, particularly viscous liquids and polymeric solids comprises a mixing vessel having therein a substantially cylindrical mixing chamber; a rotor with a cross-section in the shape of a convex-convex lens having outer convex surfaces substantially identical in shape to the inner wall surface of the cylindrical mixing chamber and with a longitudinal dimension substantially identical to that of said cylindrical mixing chamber, the rotor being variably positionable so it's rotating axis is parallel to the axis of the mixing chamber, but eccentric thereto, and mounted within the mixing chamber upon a base having a drive mechanism for the rotor disposed through it; and a lid for tightly sealing the chamber formed by the mixing vessel and the base. The rotor preferably fills from 28 to 100% of the volume of the mixing chamber; most preferably 50 to 75%. The rotor may be heliciform along its longitudinal axis.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1991Date of Patent: December 7, 1993Assignee: University of AkronInventors: Alan N. Gent, Richard L. Henry

Patent number: 5100303Abstract: An agitator and pump assembly adapted to be trailed behind a vehicle and to be moved into a manure pond, wherein the apparatus includes a pump housing at the end of an elongated frame supported on a wheeled sub-frame. The wheeled sub-frame is pivotally connected near one end to a midpoint of the elongated frame. The pump housing includes a rotating bladed impeller having an axis of rotation which is at an acute angle to the elongated frame, and a screw pump extends above the housing for thrusting the material downwardly through the housing upon rotation thereof.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1989Date of Patent: March 31, 1992Inventor: Marcel Depault

Patent number: 4988303Abstract: An adjustable agitator assembly having a hexagonal shaft to which is attached a hexagonal hub. A mounting block is attached to the hub at the desired locations. The mounting block has a receptacle to receive the splined shaft of a paddle. The splines allow the orientation of the paddle to be changed to many different discrete positions while at the same time preventing the paddle shaft from slipping. Seals are used to prevent penetration of the contacts between the various parts of the assembly by the media which is stirred.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1989Date of Patent: January 29, 1991Inventor: William K. Patent number: 4921356Abstract: A stirring apparatus that can be used to stir food while it is cooking. The present invention also affords the user with a great deal of adaptability as it can accommodate a large variety of pot sizes. The continuous stirring nature of the present invention improves the quality, color, and taste of the food items which it stirs, because the stirrer rotates constantly while the food is cooking. Moreover, the present invention reduces cleanup time and effort as the food in the pot is less likely to stick to the sides and leave hard-to-remove residues.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1989Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Inventor: Giovanni Bordenga
