  • Patent number: 4732487
Abstract: Impeller means (4 and 5) is provided in a container (2) for agitating fluid. The impeller means is movable to effect fluid flow. The impeller means includes an impeller (4) which is separate from a wall portion of the container to a point of which the impeller (4) is connected by supporting means (5). Movement of the impeller means relative to the wall portion is achieved by making the impeller means flexible. A vibrator (6) may be provided to cause movement of the impeller means. The characteristics of the components can be chosen so that when the vibrator is activated the impeller vibrates with a greater amplitude than the wall portion (3). This can be achieved by vibrating the wall portion at a frequency approximately equal to a resonant frequency of the impeller means.

  • Patent number: 4676655
Abstract: A fluent material mixer having a bottom barrel section with a mixed material exit and an upper barrel section from which an operating plunger shaft projects. The two barrel sections contain materials which are separated from each other and are to be mixed together prior to extrusion. A breakable separator is disposed between the barrel sections. A fluent material mixer plate with material bypassing holes defined in it is disposed on and movable through the barrel sections by the plunger shaft. A wiper is detented to position at the upper end of the upper barrel section. The wiper includes a plate without openings through it and it sealingly engages the interior of the barrel sections. A sleeve at the radially inward edge of the wiper wraps around the shaft for sealing against fluent materials moving out of the barrel sections along the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4544277
Abstract: A mixing apparatus for mixing material in a mixing chamber (19) is provided. A rotor (21) is mounted on a shaft (15) which is both rotated and moved axially simultaneously. Motors (13) through gears (14,16) rotate shaft (15) and rotor (21)' and hydraulic cylinders (9) move the rotor (21) axially. Motors (13), the gears (14,16), the rotor shaft (15), and the rotor (21) are all supported by carriages (11) which slide on horizontal rods (7). The rotor (21) has internal radial mixing slots (39). A rotor cleaning apparatus is provided which includes two separable collar parts (41, 41') having a plurality of cleaning prongs (43) in the form of a comb. The collar parts (41, 41') are supported by comb carriages (45, 45') which move the collar parts (41, 41') radially from a non-use position into cleaning position. When the rotor cleaning apparatus is in cleaning position, the cleaning prongs (43) are in alignment with the radial slots (39).

  • Patent number: 4479590
Abstract: Apparatus for melting and dispensing very high viscosity material, such as butyl. A chamber with heated walls is provided with an internal conveyor and pump near the bottom wall of the chamber. The conveyor has sections which transfer rotational energy to material within the chamber, dragging high viscosity material to a pump inlet hole in the bottom wall of the chamber. Deflection plates mounted within the chamber push material down onto the conveyor, so that pump suction can be maintained. The plates also promote vertical as well as horizontal material mixing, thereby exposing new surfaces of the thermoplastic material to the heated walls of the chamber, increasing the rate of heat transfer from the walls to the material.

  • Patent number: 4322171
Abstract: A grain bin stirring apparatus with a horizontal support member for radially reciprocating down augers, said support member rotating in an arcuate path around the bin wherein the center-most reciprocating auger travels twice as far radially as the other augers through a cable and pulley arrangement. The down augers are caused to move radially by a pivoting link which transmits a programmed extent and speed of motion and the power source is geared to drive both the auger carriage units radially and the support member in an arcuate path.

  • Patent number: 4300446
Abstract: An apparatus for salting cheese. A tank containing a quantity of salt is located outside of the finishing vat that contains the cheese curd. The curd in the vat is agitated by stirring paddles which are mounted on a rotating arm and one end of a salt supply line is connected to the bottom portion of the salt tank while the opposite end of the line is connected to the rotating arm within the vat. A pressure line, connected to a source of gas under pressure, is also connected to the bottom portion of the salt tank, opposite the connection of the salt supply line. The pressure line has a smaller diameter than the supply line and gas is jetted through the salt bed, causing salt to be drawn into the fast moving gas stream and delivered through the supply line to the vat where it is uniformly distributed onto the curds.
