  • Patent number: 5718510
Abstract: The apparatus provides a unique and novel vessel and process that concentrate solids, produces paste and stores paste from mixtures of solids and liquids. The vessel or tank includes a vertical shaft mounted within the tank and a variable speed drive for rotating the shaft for circulating paste. The shaft includes a helical pump for lifting the paste and a rake arm extending outwardly from a lower portion of the shaft for moving the paste radially inward. A vertical flow director within the tank is connected to the shaft for maintaining paste flow and facilitating paste circulation at outer portions of the tank. A paste exit port through a lower portion of the tank is used for removing paste. The method forms a paste by first introducing a mixture of solids and liquids into a tank. A portion of the solids and liquids are lifted vertically to establish a circulation pattern within the tank.

  • Patent number: 5593500
Abstract: A device is disclosed for improved coating of small solid particles with a melt of a material which solidifies at room temperature. The device includes a rotatable turbine body having two rotatable disk parts. An annular gap is provided between the rotatable disk parts which allows the melt to emerge to coat the solid particles in an annular space. The two rotatable disk parts are connected by a fine-pitch thread which allows the size of the annular gap to be adjusted by rotating one of the disks relative to the other. Rotation of one of the disks is performed from the exterior of the device by an adjusting pin which eliminates the need to dismantle the device to adjust the flow of the coating material.

  • Patent number: 5433925
Abstract: A process and apparatus for removing SO.sub.2 from low-volume gas streams containing high concentrations of SO.sub.2 includes a tank scrubber containing an aqueous SO.sub.2 absorbent and an impeller. The tank scrubber has an unpartitioned vessel. The impeller includes a vertical rotating shaft having an upper and lower impeller. The lower impeller serves to agitate the SO.sub.2 absorbent. The upper impeller includes a shroud thereby directing the absorbent and gas outwardly toward the wall of the scrubber. The gas is injected into the absorbent at a point below the shrouded impeller. The shroud prevents gas bypass and thereby promotes gas-liquid mixing and, consequently, markedly improves SO.sub.2 removal efficiency.

Abstract: A plasticizing apparatus (10) including a barrel (12) having a bore (14) therethrough. An auger (24) and a rotor (30) are positioned in the bore, each extending from opposed ends (16, 18) of the barrel (12) and having ends (26, 34) that are substantially flush. The auger (24) conveys particulate plastic material along the bore (14), the plastic being frictionally melted before passing the auger discharge end (26). The rotor (30) is provided to uniformly heat the melted plastic. Auger (24) and rotor (30) each are associated with independent means for rotating (28, 32) and means for controlling the speed of rotation (50, 52). • Patent number: 5338115
Abstract: An auger-tube pump mixing device for mixing materials with large density differences while maintaining low stirring RPM and low power consumption. The mixing device minimizes the formation of vortexes and minimizes the incorporation of small bubbles in the liquid during mixing. By avoiding the creation of a vortex the device provides efficient stirring of full containers without spillage over the edge. Also, the device solves the problem of effective mixing in vessels where the liquid height is large compared to the diameter. Because of the gentle stirring or mixing by the device, it has application for biomedical uses where cell damage is to be avoided.
