Abstract: A toner cartridge for use in a laser printer has a toner reservoir or hopper in which a first paddle rotates about a fixed first axis to sweep most of the toner volume of the cartridge to agitate and push the toner out of the toner reservoir or hopper through an exit port. A second paddle is pivotally mounted on the first paddle to sweep a volume of the toner reservoir or hopper in which a portion of the longitudinal wall of the toner reservoir or hopper of the toner cartridge is non-circular so as to produce a reduced cross section in the toner reservoir or hopper. The second paddle also initially engages the curved portion of the inner surface of the longitudinal wall of the toner reservoir or hopper and preferably has a tear drop cross section.

Abstract: A portable mixing device for quickly and efficiently combining dry constituents with water to form a mix having a thin batter consistency and no unmixed material. Mounted on a wheeled, pivoting frame, a single individual can use the device to mix the material and pour it in the proper location. The device includes a cylindrical mixing drum and agitation tool mounted within the mixing drum. The agitation tool includes a motor and housing, a drive shaft, wiping assembly, and mixing assembly. The stationary wiping assembly, which extends downward into the mixing drum co-mingles so as to pass closely between and among the blades of the rotating mixing assembly such that the flexible edge portions of the wiping assembly blades are in intermittent contact with the blades of the mixing assembly. The “wiping” action of the wiper assembly on the mixing assembly insures complete and efficient agitation and mix of materials.

Abstract: Improved methods of operating batch or continuous blenders 10 having tub (11) and two agitators (17 and 18) extending parallel to each other, each agitator having horizontal shaft (19) and agitator ribbon (21) wound helically around the shaft. For batch-blending, the two agitator ribbons are wound in the same direction around the shafts, and the shafts are rotated in opposite directions for folding the product into the middle of the tub for mixing. The agitators are periodically reversed in direction of operation to prevent the build-up of product at end corners (36 and 37) of the tub and the consequent mechanical breakdown of ingredients which has occurred with previous blenders. For continuous blending to be carried out in a tub with twin agitators, the agitator ribbons are wound in opposite directions on their shafts. The agitators are rotated in opposite directions to fold the product into the center of the tub for mixing, with both agitators moving the product in the same direction lengthwise in the tub.

  • Patent number: 5102229
Abstract: Disclosed is an agitator including an agitation axis at the center of the agitator vessel, an agitator blade mounted on the agitation axis and consisting of a flat-plate-shaped blade disposed along the inner surface of the bottom wall of the agitator vessel and a grating-shaped blade continuous with the flat-plate-shaped blade, a baffle plate vertically extending for rotation around the agitator blade along the inner surface of the side wall of the agitator vessel, and drive equipment for rotating the baffle plate and the agitator blade independently from each other. When the agitator blade and the baffle plate are rotated at different speeds, circulating flow is formed in the vessel. The grating-shaped blade at the upper portion of the agitator blade shears a part of the circulating flow which descends along the radially inward agitation axis, thereby dividing that part of the flow into small parts.

  • Patent number: 5044763
Abstract: A processing machine is provided having a tool comprising at least two identical, diametrically opposite mixing fingers which revolve in the same horizontal plane. These mixing fingers have a round cross-section, are arranged very close above the bowl bottom and protrude with their free radially outer, slightly upwardly bent end into the bowl radius. Further, the mixing fingers are provided between the bowl bottom and bowl wall, and are adapted in contour outline approximately to the bowl radius. By using a round profile for the mixing fingers, both a pressure component against the bowl bottom and a raising component away from the bowl bottom are obtained. Also, due to the very small gap between the mixing fingers and the bowl bottom, an adequately high turbulence is generated so that material in this area is more fully mixed. Two mixing blades may also be provided above the mixing fingers and offset by 90.degree. in order to ensure proper mixing even of small amounts of material.

Abstract: A vertical bottom-fill auger assembly including a bottom-fill auger bowl containing an internal rotating agitator or wiper element, and a vertical moving carriage or bag handling mechanism including a traveling bag settler. The vertical movement of the carriage or bag handling mechanism may be adjusted in response to the vertical auger revolution rate, the product density or weight as measured by a bulk or net weigh scale attached to the bag support assembly, or to comport to a premeasured charge that is bulk loaded into the auger bowl. The agitator or wiper may be of a configuration having a blade mounted on a rotating shaft vertically disposed in the center of the auger bowl, or may be carried on a rotating ring horizontally disposed at or near the top of the auger bowl. The traveling bag settler includes an arm which may be oscillated in a vertical plane to strike the bottom of a bag being filled, and which travels with the bag as it descends during filling and when lowered to a conveyor.
