Abstract: A mixer system for aggressive (toxic, hazardous, corrosive, etc.) materials which are mixed (agitated, suspended, circulated, etc.) in a tank with an impeller connected to a drive shaft has the impeller and its shaft mounted in an assembly which extends through an opening into the tank and closes that opening. The assembly has a cylindrical hub with a passageway through which the shaft extends out of an open end of the hub. Bearings which are made of materials which are resistant to the aggressive material in the tank are mounted in the hub and journal and support the shaft. There are no dynamic seals which close the confinement region so that the aggressive materials can be present therein.

  • Patent number: 5366286
Abstract: A shaft (6) extending from a motor housing (1) of the mixer terminates in an end portion (10) which, for easy attachment of a mixing head (H) thereto, is formed with a shallow circumferential groove (18). This permits fitting a hub or sleeve (13) on the mixing head (H) onto the end portion (10) of the shaft with axial misalignment, without exerting lateral bending forces on the hub (13). The head is formed with a resiliently deflectable tab or flap (15) for frictional engagement with the shaft, to hold the head in secure axial position on the shaft. The terminal end (19) of the shaft (6) is convex and rounded, or essentially part ball-shaped or part-spherical. Preferably, a guide ring or guide surface (23), having the diameter of the shaft, is positioned between the circumferential or ring-shaped groove (18) and the convex and rounded, or part spherical ball-shaped or part end (19). The groove (18) is shallow, wider than deep, and preferably, in cross section, part-circular.

  • Patent number: 5340213
Abstract: An apparatus for holding hazardous waste made up of solids and liquids in a flowable form includes a tank made of material selected to be impervious to and non-corrodible by the hazardous waste and having a non-critical portion, an agitator in the tank having fluid agitation portions oriented for rotational movement about a horizontal axis, a non-sparking motor located within the tank connected to the agitator for imparting rotation to the fluid agitation portions, and a power source for the motor outside the tank having means passing through the non-critical portion of the tank for communicating power from the power source to the motor. Thus, the power source may communicate power to the non-spark generating motor to impart rotation to the agitator to cause the fluid agitation portions to agitate hazardous waste made up of solids and liquids held in the tank to maintain the hazardous waste in flowable form.

Abstract: A stirring system for stirring contents in a laboratory flask having a round or spherical bottom and a reduced neck includes a stirrer shaft manufactured with a ring at the lower end thereof which permits attachment of a blade with a nut and bolt made of TEFLON material. The nut and bolt prevents the stirrer blade from flipping over during assembly and allows for a controlled tightening force to be applied to ensure that the blade remains in proper stirring position during use. The nut and bolt design permits use of the shaft with any stirrer blade having a keyhole cutout or circular opening. A method of stirring contents in a laboratory flask by attachment of the stirrer blade to the stirrer shaft with a nut and bolt is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5277489
Abstract: A portable system for on-site batch mixing of cementitious materials, such as mortar and grout, includes a batch mixing machine for metering and mixing cement, sand and water, a cement storage silo sized to hold at least one commercial delivery truckload of cement, and a pair of sand supporting ground pads. The large cement storage silo significantly reduces the manpower and equipment costs associated with the overall batch mixing process, and the sand support pads operate to prevent dirt contamination of the cementitious mixture. A specially designed pressurized shaft bearing/seal structure provided on the batch mixer portion of the mixing machine reduces grease seal and bearing maintenance by essentially precluding entry of cementitious material into the seal and bearing. The pressurized system utilizes either a spring or air under pressure to establish a higher pressure in the grease supply than that in the mortar.

  • Patent number: 5269604
Abstract: A trailer provides a slurry hauling tank having an auger mounted for swinging movement inside the tank. A rotary hydraulic motor inside the tank drives the auger and is powered by fluid delivered through a rotary fitting extending through the tank wall. Relatively stiff stainless steel conduit connects the rotary fitting to the auger motor. The auger is oscillated through an arc while the trailer is being loaded, towed toward a disposal site and during unloading by a hydraulic motor on the outside of the tank. A hydraulic circuit alternately drives the motor in one direction and then in another direction. In one embodiment, the hydraulic circuit reverses by use of a pressure responsive cycling valve. In another embodiment, microswitches are used to reverse the hydraulic motor.

  • Patent number: 5203574
Abstract: A mixing tank for a liquid is disclosed with a built-in agitator having a shaft extending through an upper wall of the tank for engagement with a drive motor module. For shipping purposes, the shaft opening is sealed against leakage of the liquid by a seal ring which is compressed by a seal clamp between a collar fixedly mounted on the shaft and a fixed member on the upper wall of the tank. When the agitator is operated at a work station to mix the liquid, the seal clamp is released and the agitator shaft is driven by the drive motor module. In order to prevent liquid leakage around the shaft during shaft rotation, a rotor is mounted on the shaft inside the tank and the liquid which migrates up the shaft to the rotor is thrown outwardly thereby.
