Publication number: 20030095476Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for a waking system that wakes an individual gradually over a period of time in order to promote the wellness of that individual. The user sets the system controller with a desired final wakeup time, which is the time that the user must be awake. When the actual time reaches a stimulus introduction time (i.e. some time prior to the desired final wakeup time), the system controller causes the introduction of stimulus. The system further comprises a detection system that measures a parameter correlated to the individual's sleep level (preferably motion). This measured parameter is then used in a feedback loop to control the level of stimulus experienced by the individual. In this manner, the user is woken gradually over a period of time between the stimulus introduction time and the desired final wakeup time, without introducing any sudden shocks to the user's physiological systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2001Publication date: May 22, 2003Inventors: Daniel Joseph Mollicone, Matthew Vit van Wollen

Patent number: 5282181Abstract: A timepiece to be worn on the person which provides a silent mechanism alarm in the form of a tactile stimulus to the wearer when the chosen alarm time is reached. The tactile stimulus is provided by a motor attached to or integral with the timepiece and which may be driven by the same battery. The motor may actuate an element which creates the tactile stimulus in the form of vibrations, oscillations, a thumping sensation or a tightening of the wristband, among others.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1991Date of Patent: January 25, 1994Assignee: Shelly Karen EntnerInventors: Shelly K. Patent number: 5226022Abstract: In accordance with the present improvement of the present invention, in a multimode electronic timepiece, actuation of a first actuator while the timepiece is disposed in a "home" mode will cause to be displayed an alternate mode for a first predetermined period of time. If said first actuator is released prior to the elapse of said first predetermined period of time, the timepiece will be returned to said "home" mode. However, if the operator continues to actuate said first actuator beyond this first predetermined period of time, the program is adapted upon elapse of said first predetermined period of time, to immediately display on said timepiece display for a second predetermined period of time, a message indicating to the timepiece operator that continued actuation of said first actuator will cause the timepiece to be disposed into a predetermined alternate mode.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Timex CorporationInventor: Tom Thinesen

Patent number: 5222053Abstract: An analog electronic watch includes a dial provided with a window, an electro-optical display device arranged below the window, and a shutter plate, movably arranged between the dial and the electro-optical display device, for opening and closing the window. The shutter plate is moved at a preset time to expose the electro-optical display device through the window of the dial, so that an alarm information displayed on the electro-optical display device becomes visible from outside.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1991Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Assignee: Casio Computer Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tatsuo Ohhira

Patent number: 5189648Abstract: A game-alarm clock including an electronic clock, an alarm and an electronic game. The electronic game is connected between the electronic clock and the alarm whereby an individual must successfully play the electronic game in order to prevent the alarm from sounding or to turn the alarm sound off.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1991Date of Patent: February 23, 1993Assignee: Stephen B. Patent number: 5105397Abstract: An apparatus including a clock housing formed of a conventional clockwork to drive an hour and minute hand in a typical fashion relative to the clock face. A series of digits are defined about the clock face for indication of time. An indicator arm mounting an indicator ring at a forward terminal end thereof is pivotal about the clockwork axis and frictionally engageable thereto to selectively indicate a predetermined digit for visual inidication to a child of an impending time frame. A modification of the instant invention includes transparent plates with aluminum members mounted rearwardly thereof selectively actuatable for selective illumination of various digits for indication of a time member digit. Further, the organization selectively includes a farrow magnetic ring mounted in surrounding relationship relative to the clock face for securement of a marker for positioning of the marker relative to an impending time digit.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1990Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Inventor: Patricia J. Patent number: 5050141Abstract: A multimode electronic timepiece has an electroptic display, an alarm, several pushbuttons and an integrated circuit programmed to keep time. Several timepiece operating modes include a pace mode, wherein audible periodic beeping sounds are produced by the alarm which correspond to the value of a preselected pace of an operator. A first manual actuation of a pushbutton commences a timing event, and second manual actuation of the pushbutton terminates the timing event. An internal program alters the preselected pace and stores an altered pace in response to the time elapsed between first and second actuation of the pushbutton. The program displays the altered pace and causes the alarm to beep at a rate equivalent to the altered pace.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1990Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Timex CorporationInventor: Tom Thinesen

Patent number: 5003519Abstract: The alarm arrangement is among those in which an alarm is released by the coincidence of a first contact point coupled to the going train of the timepiece with a second contact point coupled to an index the position of which may be regulated by a manual control element. In this arrangement the second contact point (68) is coupled to a member (60) fixed to a rotating shaft (58) on which are pivoted wheel sets (76, 92) of the going train which bear time indicating hands (82, 100). In a very simple case the member fixed to the rotating shaft is adjacent the timepiece hour wheel (80) and the contact points (68, 90) are borne by these two elements on their faces and facing one another. On the other hand the manual control element may be advantageously formed by the glass (16) of the timepiece which is then coupled to one of the ends of the rotating shaft and a rotatable bezel (22) to which the glass is fastened.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1989Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Assignee: ETA S.A. Patent number: 4996676Abstract: The miniature electric clock includes a base plate (28) bearing a motor (11), a going train (21) and time displaying hands (82,100), and a back cover-caseband (10) bearing electrical and electronic elements (7,9) resting on a printed circuit (3) itself fastened to the back cover-caseband. Electrical couplings (15,17) between the motor and the printed circuit are established when the back cover-caseband is united with the base plate. If the clock includes an alarm arrangement other electrical couplings (129,127) are likewise established between the alarm mechanism (66, 88) and the printed circuit when the back cover-caseband is united with the base plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1989Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: ETA S.A.
