Patent number: 6009642Abstract: This method provides various high-power-ratio snow removal devices which clear paths narrower than the motor vehicles. We use small, light, low-priced, yet also safe, durable devices to clear the narrow swaths. High power ratios result from applying motor vehicle horsepower to small snow removal devices similar to those found on lawn tractors. Such devices may comprise moldboard plows (FIGS. 3, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16), snow throwers (FIGS. 7 and 13), or combinations of both types (FIG. 12 and 17). Quick-connect and quick-release fittings (FIGS. 3A, 3B, 6, 8, 9A, 9B, 14) position each device for temporary propulsion by a vehicle. The connectors allow quick conversion of the family car to a plowing machine, and when plowing is done, quick re-conversion. A moldboard plow of about half the car's width (FIG. 3) is our preferred embodiment. The mini-moldboard (FIG. 10) is least expensive. Deepest snow can be handled by our tall, narrow moldboard (FIG. 15).Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1998Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Inventor: Gordon W. Nugent

Patent number: 5509219Abstract: A Light Weight Portable Snow Plow for a vehicle having a bumper. The single piece blade is mounted on top of two tubular U-hooks. Each U-hook is inserted into molded pockets on the back of the blade. The U-hooks, in turn, are attached through hubs to a lower tubular U-support. The lower U-support extends downward and rests on the vehicle bumper. An upper U-support is also attached to the hubs. The upper support extends over and rests on the vehicle hood or trunk lid. Support straps are also attached to the hubs. At the distal end of the support straps are hooks to attach the straps to the vehicle wheel well and in turn the tubular supports and the blade to the front or rear of the vehicle. The vehicle bumper engages the rear of the bottom U-support to push the supports and thus the blade. The width of the U-hooks are different causing the blade to sit at an angle to the vehicle. The angle of the blade forces snow to one side as the vehicle moves.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1994Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Inventor: Leonard W. Mecca

Patent number: 5435082Abstract: An apparatus, for stabilizing a plowing implement mounted on a motor vehicle, comprising a rigid stabilizer member having first and second opposed ends. One end of the stabilizer member supports an attachment device for attaching the stabilizer member to a plowing frame secured to a motor vehicle. The attachment device allows pivoting motion of the stabilizer member relative to the plowing frame. The second end of the stabilizer member has an abutment surface for abutting against a pivotable portion of the plowing implement when the plowing implement is raised into travel position. The stabilizer member is pivotable into an inoperative position where complete freedom of movement of the plow is achieved and an operative position by a control mechanism. When the stabilizer member is in its operative position, the abutment surface abuts against a pivotable portion of the plowing implement to minimize undesired bouncing of the plowing implement while the vehicle is traveling on a roadway.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1993Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Inventors: Eugene R.
